The Primetime Emmy Awards took place virtually this year, but that didn’t stop them from being truly epic. Schitt’s Creek was the biggest winner of the night with a total of seven wins, while Succession and Watchmen followed with three.
Schitt’s Creek won the award for the best comedy series, and its stars Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, Annie Murphy, and Dan Levy all picked up Emmys for their performances in this Canadian sitcom. By doing so, they transformed Schitt’s Creek into the first comedy series to sweep the four main acting categories in a single year.
Dan Levy also won Emmys for writing and directing this series, and became the first person to win an award in all four major disciplines in a single year. Combined with its Creative Arts Emmy wins, Schitt’s Creek became the most-awarded comedy series in a single year.
The list of major winners also included Succession and Watchmen with four wins each, including the best drama series and best-limited series, respectively. The Primetime Emmy Awards were held virtually on September 20th, with Jimmy Kimmel serving as the host.
