We’ve seen everyone from David Tennant to Jodie Whitaker take on the role of Doctor Who and we finally know who’ll be following in their footsteps when this show returns for Season 14. Ncuti Gatwa has been cast as the next Time Lord, making history as the first black actor to play this role.

Gatwa is best known for his hilarious turn as Eric Effiong in the Netflix teen drama Sex Education, and he already received three BAFTA TV Awards nominations for his role in this series. His film career is also taking off and we’ll soon get to see him alongside Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in Barbie.

Gatwa said he’s deeply honored to be cast in the role that means so much to so many, including himself, and added he’s looking forward to working with the brilliant team behind this series.

“The entire team have been so welcoming and truly give their hearts to the show. And so as much as it’s daunting, I’m aware I’m joining a really supportive family. Unlike the Doctor, I may only have one heart but I am giving it all to this show,” said Gatwa.

One of the people Gatwa will join forces with when Doctor Who comes back for Season 14 is Russell T Davies, who’s returning as a showrunner just in time for the show’s 60th anniversary in 2023.
