You can only be Shameless for so long.

Star of the Showtime series, Emmy Rossum, has announced that she is leaving the show.

Two years ago, the 31-year-old was involved in a pay dispute with the network after demanding the same salary as her co-star, William H. Macy. William supported Emmy’s plight, saying it was about time that women received equal pay to men. The dispute resulted in the 8th season of Shameless being delayed, but Emmy did ultimately return as her character Fiona Gallagher. However, she has now confirmed in a Facebook post that the forthcoming 9th season of the show will be her last.

“I know you will continue on without me, for now. There is much more Gallagher story to be told. I will always be rooting for my family. Try not to think of me as gone, just think of me as moving down the block,” she wrote.

Shameless showrunner, John Wells, called Emmy an integral part of the show’s success, and praised her leadership, as well as direction, on set.

Not all were surprised, however. William has told Entertainment Weekly that the cast has been expecting it and that “She’s young and I think she’s made the right choice.”

Emmy, who is married to Mr. Robot creator, Sam Esmail, is expected to work with her husband on adapting and starring in a limited series based on The Hollywood Reporter feature story, Angelyne, about the mysterious Los Angeles billboard icon.
