The award season is heating up, and the Billboard Music Awards return in style this past weekend. Morgan Wallen topped the list of winners after taking 11 awards home, while Taylor Swift and Drake made the BBMAs history as the most-awarded artists with 39 wins each.

After dominating the Billboard charts all year long, the country singer Morgan Wallen was crowned as the ceremony’s top winner. He came out victorious in 11 categories, including the top male artist, the top Billboard 200 album with One Thing at the Time, and the top Hot 100 song with “Last Night”.

Swift walked away with a total of 10 awards on Sunday night, including the trophy for the top artist. She tuned in via a pre-recorded video message from The Eras Tour to thank her fans for making this possible.

“I’m talking to the fans specifically, none of this happens without you… I love you so much, I feel like the luckiest person in the world to have you in my corner and caring about the music that I make so thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you ten million times for this,” said Swift.

Swift brought her total of the Billboard Music Awards to a record-breaking 39, but so did Drake, who won five awards this year. He was followed by SZA and Zach Bryan with four wins each.

Olivia Rodrigo walked away with a few awards at pretty much every major ceremony this past year, and she took things to a whole new level at the Billboard Music Awards. The 19-year-old singer was crowned the biggest winner on Sunday night and picked up a total of seven awards.

Rodrigo came out victorious in several main categories including the top new artist and top female artist – in addition to winning awards for the top Hot 100 artist, top streaming songs artist, top radio songs artist, top Billboard 200 Global artist, and top Billboard 200 album with Sour.

Rodrigo failed to repeat the same success in the songs categories, where she received several nominations for “Good 4 U”. She ended up losing most of them to “Stay” by The Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber, including the top Hot 100 song, top streaming song, and top Billboard Global 200 song.

It was also a big night for Drake, who defeated Rodrigo, Doja Cat, Taylor Swift, and The Weeknd to win the ceremony’s top honor—the top artist. He finished the night with a total of five awards, bringing his total to 34 BBMA wins and extending his record as the most-awarded artist in the history of this ceremony.

The 2022 Billboard Music Awards were held in Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena on May 15 with Sean “Diddy” Combs serving as a host.
