]]>Anatomy of a Fall stars Sandra Hüller, who delivered one of the festival’s best performances as a German writer entangled in a gripping murder trial. Following the mysterious death of her husband at their secluded chalet in the Alps, she finds herself facing murder charges and struggling to prove her innocence.
Jane Fonda, who presented Palme d’Or to Triet, reflected on the major cultural shift that the festival went through since her first appearance at the festival in 1963.
“There were no women directors competing at that time and it never occurred to us there was something wrong with that… We have progressed, but we have a long way to go. We have to celebrate change when it happens,” said Fonda.
Seven female directors were competing in Palme d’Or this year, and Justine Triet made history as the third woman to collect this prize, following in the footsteps of Jane Campion and Julia Ducournau, who served as the member of the jury led by the Swedish director Ruben Östlund.

]]>Ostlund’s latest satirical black comedy stars Harris Dickinson and Charlbi Dean as a young fashion model celebrity couple. Their life turns upside down after they join a cruise for the ultra-rich, only to find themselves stuck on an isolated island with the rest of the survivors.
Triangle of Sadness premiered to an eight-minute standing ovation in Cannes, and it’s not Ostlund’s first movie to generate a lot of buzz at this festival. He won Un Certain Regard Jury Prize with Force Majeure in 2014, before walking away with Palm d’Or for The Square three years later.
This year’s Cannes Film Festival brought many more amazing movies our way, starting with Claire Denis’ Stars At Noon and Lukas Dhont’s Close. These two films shared Cannes’ Grand Prix, making 2022 the second year in a row to produce a tie in this category.
The 75th annual Cannes Film Festival was held between May 17 and May 28, with the French Actor Vincent Lindon presiding over the jury.

]]>The Palais des Festivals will host a “Special Cannes” event, which will run from October 27-29, and will feature four films from this year’s Official Selection and in-competition short films and the Cinéfondation’s school films.
The event will be open to the public and a jury will award the Palme d’Or for short films and the Cinéfondation prizes.
“The collection of four films from the Official Selection, the short film competition, the film school competition, and the dinners and meetings epitomize the happiness we’ll all feel to be together in Cannes in October,” said festival director Thierry Frémaux. “The films of the Official Selection are currently playing to cinemagoers in France, in Europe and throughout the world. It’s a great sign to see them making a stopover in Cannes, before we turn our attention to the 2021 season.”
The mini-festival, which is organized with the Cannes City Council, will include Un triomphe (The Big Hit!) by Emmanuel Courcol, Bruno Podalydès’ Les Deux Alfred (The French Tech), Asa Ga Kuru (True Mothers) by Japanese director Naomi Kawase, and Beginning, the debut by Georgian director Dea Kulumbegashvili.
Cannes has also confirmed the dates of next year’s festival as May 11-22.
