The Dreamgirls actor rose to prominence in 1988 with the comedy Coming to America, which was based on an original story he created.

Murphy played the prince of a fictional African country who comes to the United States in search of a bride.

It appears as though that marriage might have not worked out as a sequel has now been announced.

Black-ish creator Kenya Barris, is penning the script, with the 57-year-old Murphy set to reprise his role as Prince Akeem Joffer.

“After many years of anticipation, I’m thrilled that Coming to America 2 is officially moving forward,” Murphy said in a statement. “We’ve assembled a great team that will be led by Craig Brewer, who just did an amazing job on Dolemite [Is My Name], and I’m looking forward to bringing all these classic and beloved characters back to the big screen.”

The sequel will reportedly revolve around the Prince’s return to America to seek out his long-lost son and heir.

The past generation grew up with the Scottish ogre Shrek, and Universal Pictures would now like to reintroduce the large, green, somewhat uncouth character and his companions – Princess Fiona, Donkey, and Puss in Boots – to a new audience.

The production company has hired producer of Despicable Me, Chris Meledandri, to oversee the project, and it sounds as though he wants to get the original cast of Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, Eddie Murphy, and Antonio Banderas back together.

“When you look back on those vocal performances, they’re awesome, and while you certainly could make a case for a complete reinvention, I find myself responding to my own nostalgic feelings of wanting to go back to those characterizations,” Meledandri told Variety. “The challenge for us has been to find something that really does feel like it’s not simply yet another film in a series of sequels.”

A representative for the Dreamgirls star has confirmed that he and partner, Paige Butcher, are expecting their second child together.

The couple has been together since 2012 and is already parents to 2-year-old daughter, Izzy Oona Murphy.

The Australian model was recently spotted in Los Angeles, where the pair lives, sporting a baby bump.

This will be the 57-year-old actor’s 10th child.

His others include 29-year-old Eric with Paulette McNeely; 28-year-old Bria, 25-year-old Miles Mitchell, 23-year-old Shayne Audra, 18-year-old Zola Ivy and 16-year-old Bella Zahra with ex-wife Nicole Mitchell Murphy; 27-year-old Christian with Tamara Hood; and 11-year-old Angel Iris with Mel B.

“I really got lucky with my kids. There really isn’t a bad one in the bunch, everyone turned out to be really good people,” he has said previously.

The newest Murphy is expected to make his or her debut in December.
