The final season of Game of Thrones left many fans feeling cheated and betrayed.

Confusing character arcs, a lack of deaths… the 6 episodes promoted thousands to sign a petition calling for HBO to redo season 8.

While months have passed —and most have gotten over the ending — a director from the series still feels as though the backlash was a bit much, even though he understood it.

“I don’t necessarily think the backlash was justified, but it was unavoidable,” said Neil Marshall. “You were never going to be able to please everybody, and when you’ve got fans as loyal as dedicated as those fans are, we’re talking millions of people with opinions globally. I think they did an amazing job and endings are always tricky? How do you end these stories. You’ve got to end them somewhere, but how do you do it?”

All said and done, the director of the episodes Blackwater and The Watchers on the Wall is satisfied with how the series concluded.

“My feeling is that everyone ended up exactly where they were supposed to end up. I think it’s a huge story, but it resolved itself in the way it was meant to.”

Winter is most definitely coming.

We are partly devastated that Game of Thrones is finally coming to an end.

But we are also totally excited about the latest images from the final season!

The stills have been released by HBO and feature Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow (Emilia Clarke and Kit Harington), Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner), Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), and Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie) amongst other cast members.

HBO is sending off its premiere show with a bang, having each episode range between 60 and 80 minutes long.

Stars of the award-winning series have also warned us that we will not be entirely happy with season 8.

And as it is Game of Thrones, we can expect bitter ends for some of our favourites…

Will all men die?

We’ll have to wait until April 14th to find out.

All men must die…

With only a few months to go before Game of Thrones comes to its conclusion, one of its stars has warned that it won’t be pretty

“There are so many characters and stories that haven’t found their conclusion. So, this season is going to be incredibly satisfying for people. It is going to be incredibly exciting and heartbreaking,” Nathalie Emmanuel, who plays Missandei, told The Hindustan Times.

“I think what we can expect from the final season of GoT is just a real push. Like in the last couple of seasons, we have seen the pace of the show increase with the stakes getting higher and higher. There are so many storylines that have to come to conclusion. We have to play them out, so the pace of the show is continuing on that sense,” she says, in a veiled reference to what can only mean more deaths of the characters we love.

Nathalie has said that emotions will be far more intense and that fans can expect all they have come to love about Westeros.

Season 8 of Game of Thrones kicks off in April.

You have been warned…
