Netflix’s female wresting drama won’t be returning to the ring.

The Emmy-nominated comedy about a troupe of female professional wrestlers won’t be proceeding with a fourth and final season after it was previously renewed. Plans for that season have been scrapped due to production delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We’ve made the difficult decision not to do a fourth season of ‘GLOW’ due to COVID, which makes shooting this physically intimate show with its large ensemble cast especially challenging,” a Netflix spokesperson said in a statement. “We are so grateful to creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, Jenji Kohan and all the writers, cast and crew for sharing this story about the incredible women of ‘GLOW’ with us and the world.”

Glow was inspired by the short-lived 1980 wrestling TV show of the same name, which stood for “Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling”. The show stars Alison Brie, Betty Gilpin, Marc Maron, Sydelle Noel, Kate Nash, Britney Young, Gayle Rankin, Kia Stevens, Sunita Mani, Jackie Tohn, Kimmy Gatewood, Britt Baron, Rebekka Johnson, Ellen Wong, Chris Lowell, Marianna Palka, Shakira Barrera, and Bashir Salahuddin.

Glow is among the many shows getting their renewals reversed due to the pandemic. Netflix previously pulled the plug on The Society and I Am Not Okay With This.

Time to get our GLOW on!

Netflix has confirmed that the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling will be making their return before the summer is out.

At the end of the second season, the ladies’ wrestling show was canceled, but their manager Ray arranged a deal which would enable them to perform at a Vegas residency.

So, we’re heading to the Vegas Strip in season 3!

“Now headliners at the Fan-Tan Hotel and Casino, the women quickly realize Sin City is much more grind than glitter,” according to the third season logline. “Ever the team cheerleader, Ruth’s passion for the show begins to take a backseat to her growingly complicated personal life. Debbie is making headway as a producer, but continues to be consumed with guilt over the distance between her and her son. As their residency wears on, the lines blur between performance and reality, and the cast find themselves struggling with their own identities both in and outside of the ring,” as reported by the Collider.

Fans of GLOW will once again be receiving a 10 episode series which will premiere on August 9th.
