Golden Globes are the latest awards ceremony to go virtual this year, and they really gave us a night to remember. The event was full of surprises and major upsets, but Chloé Zhao’s Nomadland and Netflix’s The Crown were the expected top winners of the night.

Zhao made history as only the second female director to win the best director award at the Globes, in addition to picking up the best drama motion picture award for Nomadland. It was also a big night for Sacha Baron Cohen, whose recent project Borat Subsequent Moviefilm was awarded two trophies in the comedy field.

The acting categories were full of major upsets, but one win that everyone saw coming was Chadwick Boseman’s triumph with his final movie Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. The list of major surprises included Andra Day’s win for The United States vs. Billie Holiday, Daniel Kaluuya’s victory with Judas and the Black Messiah, and Jodie Foster’s upset with The Mauritanian.

The winners in the television categories were much easier to predict. The Crown led the way with four wins, as its stars Josh O’Connor, Emma Corrin, and Gillian Anderson picked up trophies in their respective categories. Schitt’s Creek and The Queen’s Gambit closely followed, with two awards each.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were in charge of co-hosting this year’s Golden Globe Awards ceremony, which took place on February 28th.

The Golden Globes is one of the most anticipated ceremonies in the entire award season, and the fun only starts once they announce the list of nominees. That moment is finally here, and Netflix is leading the way in both the movie and TV field, with Mank and The Crown receiving six nods each.

David Fincher’s highly-anticipated Citizen Kane-origin story is the main contender in the drama categories, with The Trial of the Chicago 7, The Father, Nomadland, and Promising Young Woman right behind. When it comes to the comedy field, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm was the only movie to receive three nods, and it’s the obvious favorite to score the win.

The television field is equally crowded with critically acclaimed projects, with The Crown coming on top. The latest season of this royal drama received a total of six nominations, mostly in the acting categories, but it’s also the main contender for best television series – drama. Schitt’s Creek pretty much mirrored its success in the comedy categories, with five nominations.

The winners of this year’s Golden Globes will be crowned on February 28th. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will tune in to host the ceremony from New York and Los Angeles, making this the first bi-coastal ceremony.

No one went hungry at this year’s Golden Globes!

Unlike other award shows, the Golden Globes ceremony is more relaxed, with celebrities seated at tables and indulging in food and drink.

As Tyler Perry said on stage — everyone really is as drunk as they seem!

But as dozens of pairs of clinking cutlery can make a hella noise during live TV, dinner is served before the ceremony when most stars are on the red carpet — leaving them famished by the end.

Enter Melissa McCarthy!

The thoughtful Can You Ever Forgive Me star came prepared with ham sandwiches for everyone!

“I’ve been handing them out to everyone,” she told Variety. “Next year, I’m bringing hot dogs.”

The sandwiches, which were individually wrapped, even got a shout out on stage, with winner of Best Actress in a Motion Picture (Comedy or Musical), Olivia Colman, saying “thank you for the sandwiches” during her acceptance speech.

Good job, Melissa!

Once again, the red carpet at the Golden Globes will be the scene of celebrities taking a stand.

Last year’s awards ceremony occurred just months after the Harvey Weinstein scandal came to light and the #TimesUp movement came to fruition.

The initiative aims to combat sexual harassment in the workplace throughout various industries.

Celebrities attended last year’s show not in their colorful and remarkable outfits, but rather dressed all in black in solidarity with victims of harassment.

Black has not been stipulated as the obligatory color this year, but when the 2019 Golden Globe Awards take place tonight, the 6th of January, stars will still be showing their support.

Black-and-white ribbons and bands, designed by Hollywood costume designer and stylist Arianne Phillips, will be worn by the stars gracing the red carpet.

The ribbons will symbolize that supporters are tied together in their joint commitment to create safe, fair, and dignified workplaces.

The time is now.

Jeff Bridges is ready for his close-up.

Each year, the Golden Globe Awards pay tribute to an actor or actress whose craft has made an impact on the industry.

The award is named after legendary filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille who made over 70 feature films throughout his career and was the first recipient of the lifetime achievement award which was later named in his honor.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has now announced the recipient of the 2019 Cecil B. DeMille Award as none other than Jeff Bridges.

The 69 year old has been nominated for 5 Golden Globes, winning one for Crazy Heart, for which he also won an Oscar.

“Bridges’ brilliant body of work across diverse genres has captured the hearts and minds of audiences worldwide for more than six decades. We look forward to celebrating ‘the Dude’ and his remarkable career and philanthropic achievements at the upcoming Golden Globe Awards,” said HFPA president Meher Tatna.

Bridges will receive his award at the 76th Golden Globes on January 6th, 2019.

The Golden Globes returned in style on Tuesday night and gave us another night to remember. The Banshees of Inisherin and The Fabelmans were the night’s biggest winners in the film categories, while Abbott Elementary dominated the TV field.

After coming into the night with eight nominations, Banshees managed to take three of them home. It won the trophy for best motion picture: comedy or musical, while its star Colin Farrell and screenwriter Martin McDonagh picked up awards for their contribution to the film.

Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans was right behind with two awards: best motion picture: drama and best director. It was also a big night for Everything Everywhere All at Once, as its stars Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan both won awards for their respective performances.

After winning several trophies at the Emmys, Abbott Elementary returned to dominate the Golden Globes. It won a total of three trophies, including best television series: musical or comedy and acting awards for Quinta Brunson and Tyler James Williams. House of the Dragon was named the best drama series, while The White Lotus collected another award for the best limited or anthology series.

After months of anticipation, the HFPA finally unveiled the Golden Globe Awards nominations and they were certainly worth waiting for. The Banshees of Inisherin is leading the way with eight nods in the movie categories, while Abbott Elementary topped the list of TV nominations with five.

The Banshees of Inisherin is one of the main contenders for the best motion picture – musical and comedy, and it owes most of its nominations to its amazing cast, including Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Barry Keoghan, and Kerry Condon. Martin McDonagh also received two nominations for writing and directing this black tragicomedy.

The list of contenders in the movie field also includes Everything Everywhere All with six nods, and Babylon and The Fabelmans with five each.
