]]>Vallée died at his chalet in Berthier-sur-Mer, Quebec after suffering a heart attack. His producing partner Nathan Ross released an official statement following his tragic passing and described him as “a true artist and a generous, loving guy”.
“Everyone who worked with him couldn’t help but see the talent and vision he possessed… The maestro will sorely be missed but it comforts knowing his beautiful style and impactful work he shared with the world will live on,” said Ross.
Vallée made his directorial debut with a 1995 movie Black List and went on to direct C.R.A.Z.Y. and The Young Victoria before finding mainstream success with Dallas Buyers Club and Wild. He turned to television during mid-2010 and collaborated with HBO on Big Little Lies and Sharp Objects.
HBO released an official statement mourning his death, and described him as “a truly phenomenal talent who infused every scene with a deeply visceral, emotional truth.” Many of his past collaborators, including Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern, and Matthew McConaughey paid a tribute to Vallée and sent condolences to his family on social media.
