The Morning Show became one of Apple’s flagship shows since its premiere in 2019 and received a lot of acclaim for its subject matter. It explored the aftermath of the #MeToo movement through the lens of anchors and crew of a popular morning news program.

Aniston and Witherspoon are currently in talks with Apple to renew their contracts as the show’s stars and executive producers. Deadline reports they’re expected to sign after figuring out the scheduling, adding “there’s also an option for a season five.”

Steve Carell left the series at the end of the previous season, but supporting players Mark Duplass, Billy Crudup, Nestor Carbonell, Karen Pittman, and Desean Terry are most likely returning. Season 3 will also feature several fresh faces, with Jon Hamm, Stephen Fry, Tig Notaro, and Nicole Beharie joining the cast.

Season 3 of The Morning Show still doesn’t have an official release date, but it’s expected to premiere later this fall after production wrapped up back in February.

The celebrity-studded hour-long table read included Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston, Jimmy Kimmel, John Legend, Ray Liotta, Julia Roberts, Shia LaBeouf, Morgan Freeman, Sean Penn, and Henry Golding and it took place on the Facebook page for Sean Penn’s nonprofit CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort) and LiveXLive as well as the criminal justice reform group Reform Alliance.

The event was hosted by Dane Cook with Freeman narrating the unrehearsed read, which was surprisingly flawless.

The table read was actually scheduled a month ago, but put on hold due to “technical difficulties”. The best part of the event was Pitt and Aniston reuniting 15 years after their divorce. Pitt played Judge Reinhold’s Brad Hamilton and Aniston played Phoebe Cates’ Linda Barrett. They even re-enacted the film’s awkward swimsuit sequence and Freeman appropriately ad-libbed “Lord, have mercy.” 

As for the rest of the celebrities, Roberts voiced Stacy Hamilton, the perky younger sister of Brad Hamilton, LaBeouf voiced Penn’s iconic Jeff Spicoli character, Liotta played Spicoli’s antagonist Mr. Hand, Legend voiced football star Charles Jefferson and his little brother, Golding played science teacher Mr. Vargas, McConaughey voiced Mike Damone, Penn played Taylor Negron’s Pizza Guy, and Cook played Mark “Rat” Ratner.

The table read raised more than $135,000 for CORE and Reform Alliance and attracted an audience of four million viewers.

The Morning Show actress was one of the six women recognized by Variety as part of their Power of Women luncheon. 

Along with Awkwafina, Mariah Carey, Chaka Khan, Brie Larson, and Dana Walden, Aniston was recognized for her charitable endeavors at the event at the Beverly Wilshire. 

During her speech, Aniston said, “It’s funny, I’ve never actually thought of myself as ‘powerful.’ Strong, yes. But powerful, not [really]. It’s a distinction I’ve actually been thinking about a lot lately because that word — ‘power’ and its counterpart, ‘abuse of power’ — keeps coming up in light of what is happening in our country and in our industry, a re-balancing of the scales, I guess you could say.”

The message to be powerful stems from an experience she had at 11 when she was dismissed from the table by a parental figure who claimed she didn’t have anything interesting to add to the conversation.

In an exclusive interview with InStyle, Aniston was asked about Friends and whether or not she thought the show could ever come back.

“Before that show ended, people were asking if we were coming back. Courteney [Cox] and Lisa [Kudrow] and I talk about it. I fantasize about it. It really was the greatest job I ever had,” she responded.

“I don’t know what it would look like today, but you never know. So many shows are being successfully rebooted,” she continued, before adding that there was one member of the cast who is less keen for a reboot to happen…

“I know Matt LeBlanc doesn’t want to be asked that question anymore. But maybe we could talk him into it.” She then joked: “Or we just give it some time and then Lisa, Courteney, and I could reboot The Golden Girls and spend our last years together on wicker furniture.”

This will not be Aniston’s first project with Netflix. She’s set to star in the comedy Murder Mystery along with Adam Sandler. Notaro will debut her next comedy special Tig Notaro: Happy to Be Here on Netflix.
