The Modern Family actress has always been very open about her health issues and has recently undergone another complication.

Sarah was born with kidney dysplasia, which causes cysts to grow on underdeveloped kidneys.

In 2012, the 28 year old received a kidney from her father, but was required to undergo months of dialysis 4 years later when her body started to reject the organ.

“When a family member gives you a second chance at life, and it fails, it almost feels like it’s your fault,” she said.

Not short of love — or family members — the kidney  Sarah received from her dad has now been replaced by one from her brother Ian, after they discovered he was a match, and he insisted that she do the transplant.

“I only cared about Sarah knowing that I had her back, and that she was going to be okay,” the 23-year-old Ian told Self. “I probably would have insisted on donating even if I wasn’t a match.”

Sarah underwent the transplant in September 2017 and is recovering well.

The award-winning comedy returns for its mammoth 10th season on the 26th of this month and producers have warned that not everything will be fun and games with the Pritchards.

We’re handling some bigger life events in this season,” says co-creator Christopher Lloyd. “We do deal with a death, which is certainly a topic that families have to deal with, and on television, it’s not easy to do because that’s a heavy subject. But at the same time, it would seem unusual for a family not to go through it.”

Yep, that’s right. Somebody is gonna die.

Lloyd is keeping mum on which character will meet their demise (he obviously isn’t related to Gloria!), but has said that he or she is a “significant character on the series” and the death “will be a moving event — and an event that has repercussions across several episodes.”
