The Gotham Awards returned to New York City on Monday night and set the stage for the rest of the awards season. Past Lives won the trophy for the best feature, while Anatomy of a Fall and Beef topped the list of winners with two awards each.

Past Lives faced stiff competition in the race for the best feature, but it still managed to beat all its rivals and take this trophy home. Passages, Reality, Showing Up, and A Thousand and One were also in contention for the night’s main accolade.

As for Anatomy of a Fall, Justine Triet’s acclaimed drama was the only film to walk away with two trophies this year. It won the award for the best screenplay before being named the best international feature, beating All of Us Strangers and Poor Things.

Lily Gladstone (The Unknown Country) and Charles Melton (May December) also had a reason to celebrate at this year’s Gotham Awards, after collecting acting accolades in their respective fields.

Beef was the main winner in the TV categories, where it collected two awards, for breakthrough series under 40 minutes and outstanding performance in a new series (Ali Wong). The World War II drama A Small Light picked up the award for the breakthrough series over 40 minutes, beating tough competition in The Last of Us and Dead Ringers.

The Gotham Awards are coming back to celebrate the best indie movies and TV shows of the year this fall, and the list of nominations is finally in. All Of Us Strangers is leading the way with a total of four nods, followed by Past Lives with three.

Past Lives will be competing against Passages, Reality, Showing Up, and A Thousand and One for the main award at this year’s ceremony: best feature. It also secured nominations for breakthrough director (Celine Song) and outstanding lead performance (Greta Lee).

All Of Us Strangers is one of the main contenders for the best international feature, where it’ll have to face tough competition in Anatomy of a Fall, Poor Things, The Zone of Interest, and Tótem. Its stars Andrew Scott and Claire Foy scored nominations for outstanding lead and supporting performance, while Andrew Haigh has been nominated for the best screenplay.

When it comes to the television field, Netflix’s limited series Beef is the only show to secure three nominations. It’s followed by I’m A Virgo, Swarm, Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire, Dead Ringers, The Last of Us, A Small Light, and The English with two each.

The 2023 Gotham Awards are expected to return to New York on November 27.
