Variety reports that the filmmaker has joined the forthcoming big-screen adaptation of the horror novella, Black Phone. 

According to the outlet, the story, based on Joe Hill’s horror novel revolves around “a dead cinephile, a lonely kid, an eight-foot-tall locust and a man locked in a basement stained with the blood of murdered children. There’s also an old, disconnected telephone that rings at night with calls from the dead.”

Derrickon is teaming again with Doctor Strange co-writer Robert Cargill. The two will also produce the film in addition to co-penning the screenplay. Starring in the film is Mason Thames (For All Mankind) and Madeleine McGraw (Toy Story 4).

Derrickson’s other directing credits include The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Sinister, and Deliver Us From Evil.
