2024 WGA Awards: “The Holdovers” & “American Fiction” Among Winners

The WGA Awards were significantly delayed in the face of the writers’ strike, but they finally announced the winners this past weekend. The Holdovers and American Fiction stole the show in the movie categories, while Succession, The Bear, and Beef dominated the TV field.

Despite losing the Academy Award for best original screenplay at the Oscar to Anatomy of a Fall, The Holdovers won over the WGA Awards voters. David Hemingson won the trophy for writing this film, beating Air, Barbie, May December, and Past Lives.

Cord Jefferson’s American Fiction replicated its Oscars success, winning another trophy for the best original screenplay. It defeated tough competition in Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret, Killers of the Flower Moon, Nyad, and Oppenheimer.

Winners in the TV categories were pretty easy to predict, and the three main awards went to TV shows that dominated the entire award season. Succession won best drama series, The Bear was named the best comedy series, while Beef was crowned the best limited series. The Last of Us collected the trophy for the best new series, despite losing in the best drama field.

The Writers Guild of America Awards took place on April 14, after being delayed by several months in the face of the writers’ strike.

“Succession” & “The Bear” Win Big at the 2024 Primetime Emmy Awards

Succession and The Bear dominated several major ceremonies since the start of the awards season, and they’re back for more! The final season of HBO’s acclaimed satire and the rookie season of FX’s culinary dramedy knocked it out of the park at the Primetime Emmy Awards, with six wins each.

After coming into the night with a staggering 14 nominations, Succession took six awards home – outstanding drama series, acting honors for its stars Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook, and Matthew Macfadyen, plus directing and writing awards for the hit episode “Connor’s Wedding”.

The Bear led the way in the comedy field and defeated the past winner Ted Lasso to be named outstanding comedy series. Its stars Jeremy Allen White, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Ayo Edebiri won acting accolades for their performances, while Christopher Storer was honored for his work as the show’s writer and director.

Netflix’s twisted series Beef was named outstanding limited or anthology series, and came out victorious in four more categories. Steven Yeun and Ali Wong won acting awards for their leading roles, while Lee Sung Jin received acclaim for writing and directing this show.

The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards were held on January 15 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, with Anthony Anderson hosting the festivities.

The Golden Globe Awards kicked off the award season with a bang on Sunday night, and the list of winners is as impressive as it gets. Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer dominated the motion picture field with five awards, while Succession was crowned as the biggest winner on the TV side with four trophies.

Oppenheimer came into the night with eight nominations and emerged as the main contender for best motion picture: drama. It managed to defeat the likes of Anatomy of a Fall, Killers of the Flower Moon, Maestro, Past Lives, and The Zone of Interest to take this award home.

The acclaimed World War II epic came out victorious in four more categories – best director (Christopher Nolan), best original score (Ludwig Göransson), best actor in a motion picture – drama (Cillian Murphy), and best supporting actor in a motion picture (Robert Downey Jr.).

It was also a big night for the final season of HBO’s hit series Succession, which won four awards – best drama series and acting accolades for Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook, and Matthew Macfadyen. The Bear and Beef were right behind with three awards each, starting with the best comedy series and best limited series, respectively.

The 2024 Golden Globes took place on January 7 at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, with Jo Koy hosting the show.

2024 Golden Globes: “Barbie” & “Succession” Top Nominations With Nine Nods

2023 has been another groundbreaking year in Hollywood, and the Golden Globe Awards nominations perfectly reflect that. Barbie led the way in the movie categories with nine nods, while HBO’s Succession made history as the most-nominated TV show in a single year.

After smashing records left and right this summer, Barbie scored nine Golden Globe nominations, starting with the best musical or comedy. The list of contenders in this field also includes Air, American Fiction, The Holdovers, May December, and Poor Things.

As for the drama categories, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer came out swinging and scored a total of eight nominations. It’s one of the front-runners for the best drama award, but it will have to beat tough competition in Anatomy of a Fall, Killers of the Flower Moon, Maestro, Past Lives, and The Zone of Interest.

When it comes to the TV categories, 2023 is shaping up to be a historic year for HBO’s satirical drama Succession. This show broke a major record and became the most-nominated series in a single year with nine nods. It was nominated for the best drama series, while its stars Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook, Matthew Macfadyen, Alan Ruck, Alexander Skarsgård, and J. 2023 Emmy Nominations: HBO Reigns Supreme Thanks to “Succession”, “The Last of Us” & “The White Lotus”

HBO never struggled to deliver amazing television content, and they exceeded our wildest expectations this year. Emmy voters were certainly paying attention and rewarded the network’s powerhouse dramas Succession, The Last of Us, and The White Lotus with the most nominations this year.

Towering over the competition, the final season of Succession scored 27 nominations, including 14 nods in the major field. The Last of Us was right behind with 24 nods, but only five in the main field, due to a large number of technical and guest star nominations. As for The White Lotus, Mike White’s acclaimed series will be competing for 23 awards, including 12 in the main field, starting with countless acting nominations for its ensemble cast.

As the race for the best drama unfolds, these three shows will face stiff competition from Disney+ series Andor, the final season of AMC’s Better Call Saul, Netflix’s royal drama The Crown, HBO’s epic House of the Dragon, and Showtime’s gripping thriller Yellowjackets.

Ted Lasso is leading the way in the comedy field, with a total of 21 nods, starting with the best comedy series – where the list of contenders also includes Abbot Elementary, Barry, The Bear, Jury Duty, Wednesday, Only Murders in the Building, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

As for outstanding limited or anthology series, Netflix’s Beef leads the pack and it will have to defeat Daisy Jones & The Six, Fleishman Is in Trouble, Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, and Obi-Wan Kenobi to take home the category’s main award.

The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards are scheduled for September 18, but there’s a lot of uncertainty surrounding the ceremony due to the ongoing WGA strike.

2022 Primetime Emmy Awards: “The White Lotus”, “Ted Lasso” and “Succession” Pick Up Top Prizes

This year’s Primetime Emmy Awards gave us another show to remember, with top prizes going to some worthy contenders. The White Lotus topped the list of winners on Monday night with a total of five trophies, but Ted Lasso and Succession were right behind.

The White Lotus helped HBO dominate the Emmys this year, and won some of the night’s biggest awards in the limited series categories. In addition to being crowned the outstanding limited series, its stars Murray Bartlett and Jennifer Coolidge picked up acting awards, while its creator Mike White collected two Emmys for writing and directing this series.

HBO also did pretty great in the drama categories, largely thanks to Succession. This show won its second Emmy for the outstanding drama series, in addition to picking up awards for outstanding supporting actor (Matthew Macfadyen) and outstanding writing (Jesse Armstrong).

When it comes to the comedy field, Ted Lasso led the way for the second year in a row. It won the awards for outstanding comedy series, outstanding lead and supporting actor in a comedy series (Jason Sudeikis and Brett Goldstein), and outstanding directing for a comedy series (MJ Delane).

The 74th Primetime Emmy Awards were held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on September 12. Saturday Night Live star Kenan Thompson was in charge of hosting the show.

The past year has been amazing for TV fans around the globe, giving us one epic show after another. The Emmy Awards are coming back to honor them all this September, and Succession, Ted Lasso, and The White Lotus are among the most nominated shows at this year’s ceremony.

HBO’s satirical drama Succession topped the list of nominations with a total of 25 nods. It’s in the running for 12 Primetime Emmy Awards including the outstanding drama, but it will have to face tough competition in Better Call Saul, Euphoria, Ozark, Severance, Stranger Things, Squid Game, and Yellowjackets.

When it comes to the comedy categories, Ted Lasso is a clear favorite with 20 nominations, half of them in the main field. It’s closely followed by Hacks and Only Murders in the Building with a total of 17 nods, including outstanding comedy. The list of nominees for this award also includes the likes of Barry, Abbott Elementary, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and What We Do in the Shadows.

The White Lotus is the main contender for the limited series trophy with a total of 20 nods. Dopesick will be its biggest competitor, especially in the acting categories, where multiple actors from both shows scored several nominations.

“Don’t Look Up”, “CODA”, and “Succession” Win Big at 2022 WGA Awards

The Academy Awards are just a few days away and the race is getting wilder than ever after several major organizations announced their list of winners. At the 2022 Writers Guild Awards on Sunday night, awards were given to the movies Don’t Look Up and CODA and the TV shows Succession and Hacks.

CODA emerged as a surprising dark horse for the best picture at the Oscars after winning the WGA award for the best adapted screenplay. This victory comes shortly after it pulled a major upset and won the award for the best motion picture at the Producers Guild of America Awards.

As for Don’t Look Up, Adam McKay picked up the trophy for the best original screenplay for his work on this satirical comedy. This film is in the running in the same category at the Oscars, where it’s competing against Belfast, King Richard, Licorice Pizza, and The Worst Person in the World.

As for the TV categories, it was a big night for HBO. Succession was named the best drama series, while Hacks collected awards for best comedy series and best new series. Mare of Easttown and Maid walked away with trophies reserved for long-form television media.

“CODA”, “Succession” and “Ted Lasso” Take Top Prizes at SAG Awards

The SAG Awards came back to honor the best film and TV performances of the past year on Sunday night and brought a few surprises our way. CODA pulled a major upset and managed to win the award for the best acting ensemble, while Succession and Ted Lasso dominated the TV categories.

CODA was facing tough competition in the main field, with Belfast, Don’t Look Up, The House of Gucci, and King Richard also in the running. It managed to beat them all, winning the trophy for the outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture.

It was also a big night for the supporting actor Troy Kotsur, who gave CODA its second win. When it comes to the rest of the winners in the film categories, the list included the best actor Will Smith (King Richard), best actress Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye), and best-supporting actress Ariana DeBose (West Side Story).

Succession and Ted Lasso came back to dominate the TV field, winning best ensemble awards in their respective categories. Hit Netflix drama Squid Game also had a big night, winning a total of three awards—best actor and actress in a drama (Lee Jung-jae and Jung Ho-Yeon), and best stunt ensemble.

This year’s Screen Actors Guild Awards were held at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica on February 27th.

2022 SAG Awards: “House of Gucci”, “Ted Lasso” & “Succession” Top Nominations

Only a few days after a private Golden Globe ceremony, the award season is heating up with the announcement of SAG Awards nominees. House of Gucci and The Power of the Dog are leading the way in the movie field, while Ted Lasso and Succession scored most nominations in the TV categories.

House of Gucci has proved as a surprising favorite with the members of the Screen Actors Guild. Lady Gaga and Jared Leto received nominations for their individual performances, and they’ll be competing for the biggest awards of the night—an outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture—with the rest of their co-stars.

Belfast, CODA, Don’t Look Up, and King Richard are also in the running for this award, but The Power of the Dog was shockingly left out. It owes its three nominations to its stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, and Kodi Smit-McPhee.

Ted Lasso and Succession are obvious favorites in the TV field, with five nominations each. Netflix’s smash hit Squid Game, Apple TV+ drama The Morning Show, and HBO mini-series Mare of Easttown are right behind with a total of four nods, while Only Murders in the Building received three.

SAG Awards will take place on February 27th, with a live broadcast on TBS and TNT.
