The new series will tackle the theme that drew a lot of attention in recent years—the death of print media. The documentary crew from the original series will follow the publisher trying to revive a dying historic Midwestern newspaper with volunteer reporters.

According to Lisa Katz, president of scripted content for NBCU Entertainment, “this new series set in the universe of Dunder Mifflin introduces a new cast of characters in a fresh setting ripe for comedic storytelling: a daily newspaper.”

Domhnall Gleeson (The Patient) and Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus) will play two of these characters, while the rest of the ensemble cast will be announced ahead of the production start in July.

This spin-off came together after Greg Daniels worked on new ideas with a team of trusted writers this winter. Michael Koman joined him as co-creator and one of the executive producers, along with Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, Howard Klein, Ben Silverman, and Banijay Americas.
