The Oscar-winning writer-director of Jojo Rabbit has just landed his major project.

What has been rumored since the beginning of the year is now official — Taika Waititi will helm and co-write the as-yet-untitled Star Wars film. His co-writer is 1917’s co-scribeKrysty Wilson-Cairns.

The news was announced by Disney and Lucasfilm announced on Monday.

It’s now safe to say that Waititi had a big change of heart because back in February, he thought that boarding a Star Wars project would end his career.

“I think people see me hanging out with people, especially with Star Wars, and think I’m having some big discussions about it,” he said. “I would f—ing love to.…If it was right. I would want to do any kind of movie if it made sense, and if it felt not like career suicide.”

Waititi also helmed the season finale of the hit Disney+ Star Wars series The Mandalorian.
