It’s been almost a month since Taylor Swift dropped Folklore, and this surprise album is still dominating the charts. Folklore reigns at No. 1 at the Billboard 200 albums chart for a third week in a row, becoming the first album by a female artist since 2018 to do so.

Folklore was released on July 24th, only hours after Swift announced its release. The singer wrote and recorded the entire album in quarantine, and wanted to share it with the world right away, without spending months teasing it.

“Before this year I probably would’ve overthought when to release this music at the ‘perfect’ time, but the times we’re living in keep reminding me that nothing is guaranteed. My gut is telling me that if you make something you love, you should just put it out into the world,” explained Swift on Instagram.

Folklore was praised by critics and fans, became an instant commercial success, and produced a No. 1 hit “Cardigan.” It had the largest weekly sales and streaming figures of the year during its debut week and it became the fastest album of 2020 to sell over million units in the U.S. after three weeks of availability.
