Big news for fans of The Big Bang Theory – but sadly it isn’t good news, as the show is officially coming to an end after 12 hilarious seasons.

Pass us the tissues…

“We are forever grateful to our fans for their support of The Big Bang Theory during the past twelve seasons,” began a joint statement from CBS, Warner Bros. TV and Chuck Lorre Productions.

“We, along with the cast, writers and crew, are extremely appreciative of the show’s success and aim to deliver a final season, and the series finale that will bring The Big Bang Theory to an epic creative close.”

We’re not entirely surprised by the news that The Big Bang Theory is finishing, as the cast has been hinting about a possible end for quite some time.

Still, the cast and crew will be going out on a high as they have a multitude of awards and world records under their belt…

According to Warner Bros, with 279 episodes, the show is set to be the longest-running multi-camera comedy in TV history.

Plus, who can forget the fact that it’s been nominated for a whopping 46 Emmy Awards, with Jim Parsons boasting four Outstanding Lead Actor wins for his role as Sheldon Cooper. Pretty impressive going!

Season 12 of The Big Bang Theory officially premieres on Monday, September 24 at 8 pm on CBS.

What will the final season hold for Penny, Leonard, Sheldon and the rest of the gang? Not long to go ‘til we find out…
