The Boys is one of Prime Video’s biggest hits and they could’ve kept it around for years, but Eric Kripke decided to end it on a high note. The creator of the hit superhero series announced that the upcoming Season 5 will mark the show’s final chapter.

Kripke shared the news in a statement on social media and said he was thrilled to bring the story to its epic climax. He added he always intended to wrap up the story after five seasons, but he was cagey about sharing his master plans with the world before getting a green light from Amazon.

This announcement comes just a month after Prime Video renewed The Boys for Season 5. The company’s head of television, Vernon Sanders, said they’re proud to see it grow into a global franchise that captivated viewers all over the world by piercing the cultural fabric season after season.

The Boys is based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s comic book of the same name, and it centers on a group of vigilantes trying to expose the corrupt superhero team known as The Seven.

Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Chace Crawford, Laz Alonso, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, and Nathan Mitchell lead the show’s ensemble cast and they’ll return in Season 4, set to premiere on Prime Video on June 13.
