The big screen adaptation of Cats is purring its way into a full-blown galaxy of stars!

When Andrew Lloyd Webber’s stage classic finally makes it into cinemas it will boast two Commanders of the British Empire — one of whom is an Oscar winner.

Director of Les Misérables, Tom Hooper, will bring the musical to life, telling the tale (get it) of the Jellicle cats, who are preparing for one of their own to be reincarnated.

Dreamgirls actress Jennifer Hudson has already sighed on as the lead Grizabella, which means she will use those Oscar-winning chops of hers to sing the famous song “Memories.”

She will be joined by X-Men star Sir Ian McKellen as Gus the Theatre Cat and Idris Elba of Beasts of No Nation as the villain Macavity.

In the story, Macavity kidnaps the Jellicle’s leader, Old Deuteronomy, who in this version will be female and played by Skyfall actress and Academy Award winner Dame Judi Dench.

The 83-year-old Dench was cast as Grizabella in the original 1981 stage version, but sadly snapped her Achilles’ tendon before previews began. Talk about cashing in on nine lives!
