“The Dark Tower” Series Casts its Leads

Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba in "The Dark Tower" (2017)

The Dark Tower may have been adapted from the page to the big screen not so long ago, but the Stephen King series is now moving to the small screen.

Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey brought the story of The Gunslinger trying to protect the titular Dark Tower and his enemy, The Man in Black.

Amazon is now developing a series based on the eight novels that was originally supposed to tie-in to the 2017 film, but will instead be a more faithful adaptation of the books.

Glen Mazzara has been signed to serve as both executive producer and showrunner, with two leads now being cast for the pilot.

Sam Strike of Eastenders has been cast as Roland Deschain — the part played by Elba — while BlacKKKlansman actor Jasper Pääkkönen will take over McConaughey’s role as Walter Padick.

The series is expected to tell the story of how Roland became a gunslinger and his first encounter with the villainous Man in Black.
