“The Witches” Headed Straight to HBO Max, Gets Trailer

Anne Hathaway in "The Witches"

Robert Zemeckis’ adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The Witches starring Anne Hathaway is headed to HBO Max just in time for Halloween!

The Witches was supposed to open in theaters on October 9, but the premiere was delayed due to the pandemic. Instead, the dark fantasy comedy will debut on the subscription streaming service on October 22 and it will play in international cinemas starting October 28.

The film is about a young boy who’s staying with his grandmother at a hotel and stumbles upon a gathering of witches led by the Grand High Witch (Hathaway). With his grandmother’s help, he tries to stop their plan of turning the world’s children into mice.

Also starring in The Witches are Jahzir Kadeem Bruno, Octavia Spencer, Stanley Tucci, Chris Rock, and Kristin Chenoweth.

“‘The Witches’ is a wonderful reimagining of Roald Dahl’s classic tale that combines world-class filmmaking with fantastic performances,” said Toby Emmerich, Chairman, Warner Bros. Pictures Group. “It’s fun for the whole family and ideal for this time of year.”

The story was first adapted to the big screen in 1990 with Angelica Huston and Rowan Atkinson starring. Although the film didn’t fare well in box offices, it later gained a cult following.
