Many beloved artists have been given Hollywood treatment in recent years, and Bob Dylan is the next one in line. Timothée Chalamet will portray the legendary singer in the upcoming biopic A Complete Unknown, and the first trailer captures his epic transformation.
According to Searchlight’s official synopsis, A Complete Unknown chronicles “Bob Dylan’s meteoric rise as a folk singer to concert halls and the top of the charts, culminating in his groundbreaking electric rock and roll performance at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965.”
In addition to Chalamet in the lead role, the cast of this biopic will also include Edward Norton as folk singer Pete Seeger, Elle Fanning as Dylan’s girlfriend Sylvie Russo, Monica Barbaro as his collaborator Joan Baez, Boyd Holbrook as the legendary singer Johnny Cash, Dan Fogler as Dylan’s manager Albert Grossman, and Scoot McNairy as the folk composer Woody Guthrie, among others.
A Complete Unknown is based on Elijah Wald’s book Dylan Goes Electric! and it was adapted for the big screen by Jay Cocks and director James Mangold, who previously directed the Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line. It will be released in the United States this December, but Searchlight Pictures is yet to announce its official release date.
