Want to know what everyone was doing on Sunday night?

Watching the premiere of Watchmen, that’s what.

Damon Lindelof’s long-awaited adaptation of the comic book series starring Jeremy Irons, Regina King, Jean Smart, Don Johnson, Louis Gossett Jr., and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

Described by the Lost creator as a sequel rather than a reboot of the original source material, HBO states that “Watchmen embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel of the same name, while attempting to break new ground of its own.”

This was proven with 800,000 people tuning in to the first episode on Sunday night, making it the most-watched new series debut this year.

The viewership of graphic novel series expanded to 1.5 million people when HBO Now and HBO Go were taken into account.

The numbers have now made Watchmen the strongest digital debut for an HBO series since the premiere of Westworld in 2016.
