After a lot of anticipation, the first trailer for Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City is finally here – and it was worth waiting for. This sci-fi comedy is taking us to a space cadet convention during the 50s and its cast is as star-studded as it gets.

Anderson’s films always feature an ensemble of A-list stars, and he outdid himself this time around. Asteroid City stars the likes of Jason Schwartzman, Jeffrey Wright, Bryan Cranston, Adrien Brody, Liev Schreiber, Hope Davis, Stephen Park, Rupert Friend, Maya Hawke, Steve Carell, Matt Dillon, Hong Chau, Willem Dafoe, Margot Robbie, Tony Revolori, Jake Ryan, and Jeff Goldblum.

As for the plot, Asteroid City will center on a group of students and parents from across the country, who gathered in in a fictional American desert town around 1955 to attend a Junior Stargazer convention, which is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events.

Like Anderson’s last film, The French Dispatch, Asteroid City will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. After hitting the festival circuit in May, it will get a limited theatrical release on June 16, before expanding wide a week later.

Asteroid City isn’t the only film Anderson is planning to release this year. The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar starring Benedict Cumberbatch is also eying a 2023 release date on Netflix.
