The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge welcomed their third child two months ago, and they just announced another important milestone for their new-born son. According to the statement released by Kensington Palace, Prince Louis’ christening will take place on July 9.

Prince Louis will be baptized at the Chapel Royal at St James’s Palace. It’s the same spot where his brother George had his big day back in 2013. Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury, will be in charge of performing the christening. He also did the honors of baptizing Prince George and Princess Charlotte and officiated Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding.

The couple will announce Louis’ godparents at the event and there’s already a lot of speculations surrounding them. Fans of the royal family are suggesting they’ll pick Harry and Meghan, but that’s highly unlikely. William and Kate had a habit of choosing their friends and aides, rather than immediate family members in the past. Odds suggest that won’t change on July 9, when Prince Louis’ big day comes.

This day actually has a special meaning for the royal family. It’s the same date when baby’s great-grandparents Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip announced their engagement, 71 years earlier. Is it just a happy accident or a deliberate choice William and Kate made to honor their legacy? We’ll probably never know, but July 9 just became even more meaningful!
