News of Stallone’s casting was announced by Suicide Squad writer-directed James Gunn via his Twitter account. He wrote, “Always love working with my friend @officialslystallone & our work today on #TheSuicideSquad was no exception. Despite Sly being an iconic movie star, most people still don’t have any idea what an amazing actor this guy is,” alongside a picture of the two. 

Stallone added in a post of his own, “Working with this incredible Director on this astounding project has made this an amazing year. I am a very lucky man to be surrounded by such talent.”

Stallone’s role is being kept under wraps, but considering Gunn previously confirmed that filming had concluded in February, we wonder just how involved Stallone is in the film.

The Suicide Squad is set to release on August 6, 2021. It stars Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Peter Capaldi, and Viola Davis.

Michael Tadross Jr, Jasmine Reid, and Arnold Rifkin are set to produce. 

“It’s a message I think is important in these divided times. It’s about coming together through hardship and finding a way past our differences. I’m excited to bring it to the screen,” Reid said.

Way of the Warriors is scheduled to begin production in late 2020.

YouTube Originals has announced that a new 30-minute special following Justin Bieber will premiere on the artist’s YouTube channel on October 30. 

The one-off documentary special titled Justin Bieber: Next Chapter follows the platform’s original docuseries Justin Bieber: Seasons. Seasons was hugely successful drawing more than 32 million views in its first seven days.

According to Deadline, Chapters will give viewers an exclusive look at his life in quarantine. The project was directed by Seasons helmer Michael D. Ratner with Bieber also on board as producer. Ratner is also an executive producer alongside Scooter Braun, Allison Kaye, and Scott Manson.

After paused production once before back in mid-March during the start of the pandemic, the streamer has paused production on The Harder They Fall after a member of the production team tested positive for COVID-19. 

The film, penned by Boaz Yakin and directed by Jeymes Samuel, follows an outlaw who discovers that the man who killed his parents has been released from prison. He then forms a gang to help him as he seeks revenge. 

Also starring in the film are Regina Kin, Jonathan Majors, Zazie Beetz, LaKeith Stanfield, and Delroy Lindo.

Elba was one of the first stars to publicly confirm they contracted COVID-19 at the onset of the pandemic, along with his wife, Sabrina Dhowre Elba. He has sense recovered.

It’s unclear when filming will resume. Netflix did not comment.

Actress Gal Gadot and helmer Patty Jenkins are teaming up again for Cleopatra. The talented duo has worked together before on the Jenkins directed Wonder Woman and the upcoming Wonder Woman 1984.

Gadot confimred that she has been cast to play titular character via Twitter.

“As you might have heard I teamed up with PattyJenks and LKalogridis to bring the story of Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt, to the big screen in a way she’s never been seen before. To tell her story for the first time through women’s eyes, both behind and in front of the camera.”

Cleopatra is set at Paramount Pictures. Laeta Kalogridis is set to write the screenplay.

Wonder Woman 1984 is expected to be released in theaters on Christmas Day.

The trailer was unveiled during Saturday’s New York Comic-Con panel, and since Evil is not slated to begin filming its second season until next month, fans were treated to a homemade trailer curtsey of the series creators and main cast members. 

The three-minute clip sees returning cast members—Katja Herbers, Mike Colter, Aasif Mandvi, Michael Emerson, Christine Lahti, and Kurt Fuller—in their homes, belting out sound effects and narrating scenes that could very well be a part of the upcoming season.

Evil is a psychological mystery that unravels the origins of evil along the lines between science and religion. It focuses on a skeptical female psychologist who joins a priest-in-training and a contractor as they investigate the Church’s backlog of unexplained mysteries, including supposed miracles, demonic possessions, and hauntings. Their job is to assess if there is a logical explanation or if something truly supernatural is at work.

Netflix has dropped the first full trailer for Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey. The musical adventure hails from writer and director David E. Talbert.

Set in the town of Cobbleton the film follows toymaker Jeronicus Jangle, played by Forrest Whitaker, a brilliant and inventive legendary toymaker. But when his trusted apprentice (Keegan-Michael Key) steals his most prized creation, it’s up to his granddaughter (Madalen Mills) to awaken the magic and heal old wounds. 

“Twenty years in the making … excited to share first look photos of my new film Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey—Netflix’s first original live-action musical,” Talbert shared on Instagram.

The film features original songs by John Legend, Philip Lawrence, and Davy Nathan. It also stars Anika Noni Rose, Kieron Dyer, Justin Cornwell, Lisa Davina Phillip, and Hugh Bonneville.

The film hits Netflix on November 13.

Tenet is the first (and only) major release for a long while due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. The film has failed to haul the numbers a Nolan feature would normally gross, which most likely means that Warner Bros. film is set to lose millions during its theatrical run. According to Variety, however, the decision to release Tenet in theaters is part to the studio’s strategy, believing that it will in fact make more money by launching in theaters than it would have if it had debuted on HBO Max.

Dave, the semi-autobiographical show about rapper and comedian Dave Burd, will return for season two. 

The series, which recently concluded its first season is officially the network’s highest-ranking comedy series ever after dethroning Atlanta, bumping it from the number one spot.

Dave is co-created by Dave Burd and Jeff Schaffer. The duo also exec produced alongside Saladin Patterson, Kevin Hart, Scooter Braun, Greg Mottola, Marty Bowen, James Shin, Scott Manson, and Mike Hertz.

“We set out to make something special and it’s so gratifying to see the response this show has gotten,” said Burd. “This was my first rodeo, so I’m super excited to take another crack at it now that I’ve got some experience making television. It really feels like the sky is the limit with this show. I look forward to raising the bar even higher next year.”

Multiple outlets confirm that the network will show unseen footage from Swift’s City Of Lover Concert in Paris, which took place in France last September. The special titled Taylor Swift City Of Lover Concert will feature songs from the singer-songwriter’s Lover album as well as behind-the-scenes moments.

“While we are all home, Taylor Swift and her family of fans will be able to have a moment together and experience a never-before-seen, intimate performance,” said Eric Avram, ABC Entertainment’s VP of talent and booking, vice president, “and we are so thrilled to be able to offer this to our own family of viewers on ABC.”

Taylor Swift City of Lover Concert will air May 17.
