We’re getting sequel to “The Shining” with Ewan McGregor in the lead

Ewan McGregor is no stranger to iconic characters since he already played everyone from Obi-Wan Kenobi to Jesus. That’s probably why legendary horror author Stephen King gave him his blessing after Warner Bros. cast him as the lead in an adaptation of Doctor Sleep. It’s a sequel to his best-selling novel The Shining and Golden Globe winner will star as grown-up Danny Torrance.

Last time we’ve seen Danny, he’s been dealing with his father’s lingering rage and drinking problem. The traumas he experienced inside the walls of the Overlook Hotel followed him into adulthood. After years of drifting through America, he settles in the small town of Frazier and tries facing his alcoholism. Sobriety awakens his “shining” powers and Danny finds a way to use them for good.

Stanley Kubrick directed the original adaptation of The Shining, one of the best horror movies of all times. Danny Lloyd played the role of young Danny Torrance, but he wasn’t bitten by the acting bug. He retired from Hollywood early on and currently works as a biology professor at a community college in Kentucky. Even without Lloyd on board, Doctor Sleep looks promising and not only because of Ewan McGregor’s involvement. The director Mike Flanagan proved he is capable of adapting Stephen King’s writing to the big screen with Gerald’s Game. He’ll get the chance to shine again on 24 January 2020, when Doctor Sleep hits the theater.
