Emerald Fennell is getting ready to bring Wuthering Heights to the silver screen, and she found the perfect people to lead this project. Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi have been cast in the latest adaptation of Emily Brontë’s classic romance novel.
Fennell announced she was working on a new version of Wuthering Heights back in July, by posting a graphic with the iconic line “Be with me always – Take any form – Drive me mad.” We haven’t heard much about this project ever since, but she finally shared some major casting news with the world.
Margot Robbie will play Catherine Earnshaw opposite Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff, who’s no stranger to collaborating with Fennell. He played one of the key roles in her last movie Saltburn, and he agreed to join Wuthering Heights after wrapping up another highly-anticipated adaptation – Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein.
Robbie and Fennell go a long way, even though they only briefly shared the screen in Barbie, where Fennell made a cameo as Midge. They mostly worked together behind the scenes since Robbie’s production company LuckyChap produced her previous films Saltburn and Promising Young Woman.
Fennell’s collaboration with LuckyChap will continue on Wuthering Heights, which she’ll write, direct, and produce. The shooting will take place in the UK in 2025.
