DC star Jason Momoa, however, has shared his excitement about Pattison taking on the role. Momoa plays Aquaman in the DC extended universe. Although the superheroes are part of the same comic franchise, it seems unlikely that the actor’s paths will cross. Nonetheless, Momoa has said that he is “really stoked” about the new Batman casting.

Momoa told Entertainment Tonight: “I’m really stoked. He’s a good man, he’s a great actor. I’m excited about the whole thing.”

When asked about the odds of his and Pattison’s characters crossing paths, he said: “I mean, it’d be awesome, but I don’t think it’s going that way. Let’s just let them do their thing and I’ll do my thing.”

The Batman will be released June 25, 2021.

Pattison has said he was “furious” as he was worried that Warner Bros. would get spooked and change their mind about giving him the role. Fortunately, the decision remains unchanged and the problem Pattison currently faces is prejudice from fans who can’t shake his image as the teen vampire heartthrob, Edward Cullen. This is not a new problem for Pattison, who has done his best to avoid typecasting since the Twilight franchise wrapped up. He is subsequently unbothered by people’s opinions regarding his new role.

In response to the backlash, Pattison told Variety: “To be honest, it was less vitriolic than I was expecting. It’s much more fun when you’re an underdog. There’s no expectation of you.”

In the same interview, Pattison also credited Matt Reeves directing. He said: “It’s an interesting direction. It’s something from the comics which hasn’t really been explored yet.”

He continued: “It’s interesting the different directions you can take with it and that the, in some ways, quite a specific character actually has a lot of leeway. When you look at the different tones of the movies and TV shows, you can do quite a lot with it.”

The new Batman movie is scheduled for June 25, 2021.
