Now, Netflix has announced that they too will be bringing back Elvis – in the form of a cartoon character. The premise of the show? Elvis is an undercover agent tasked with the mission to keep America safe.

The show, titled Agent King is being co-created by Elvis’ widow, Priscilla Presley. She said: “From the time Elvis was a young boy he always dreamed of being the superhero fighting crime and saving the world. Agent King lets him do just that.”

She added: “My co-creator John Eddie and I are so excited to be working with Netflix and Sony Animation on this amazing project and getting the chance to show the world an Elvis they haven’t seen before.”

After five actors auditioned for the role of Elvis Presley, only one could step into those blue suede shoes.

The director of the upcoming biopic on the “Heartbreak Hotel” singer, Baz Luhrmann, screen-tested Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ansel Elgort, Austin Butler, Harry Styles, and Miles Teller in full hair and make-up for the part.

And it seems as though Butler’s coiffure won out.

The Once Upon a Time in Hollywood actor will be taking on the role of the iconic musician who is the best-selling solo artist of all time.

“I knew I couldn’t make this film if the casting wasn’t absolutely right, and we searched thoroughly for an actor with the ability to evoke the singular natural movement and vocal qualities of this peerless star, but also the inner vulnerability of the artist,” Luhrmann said in a statement.

“Throughout the casting process, it was an honor for me to encounter such a vast array of talent. I had heard about Austin Butler from his stand-out role opposite Denzel Washington in The Iceman Cometh on Broadway, and through a journey of extensive screen testing and music and performance workshops, I knew unequivocally that I had found someone who could embody the spirit of one of the world’s most iconic musical figures.”

The film is set to focus on Elvis’s relationship with his manager, Col. Tom Parker, played by Tom Hanks.

The United States Office of the Press Secretary has confirmed that Elvis Presley will receive a Presidential Medal of Freedom.

The prestigious award is considered the Nation’s highest civilian honor and is awarded by the President to individuals who have made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.

While it is not unusual for musicians to receive the honor, Elvis — who died in 1977 of a heart attack — is only the third musician to do so posthumously.

“Elvis Presley defined American culture to billions of adoring fans around the world. Elvis fused gospel, country, and rhythm and blues to create a sound all his own, selling more than a billion records,” The White House said of the recognition.

“Elvis also served nearly 2 years in the United States Army, humbly accepting the call to serve despite his fame. He later starred in 31 films, drew record-breaking audiences to his shows, sent television ratings soaring, and earned 14 Grammy Award nominations. He ultimately won 3 Grammy Awards for his gospel music. Elvis Presley remains an enduring American icon four decades after his death.”
