After it’s been reported they’re eyeing the roles in the new series, HBO confirmed the casting of John Lithgow (The Crown) as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer (The White Queen) as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu (I May Destroy You) as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost (Hot Fuzz) as Rubeus Hagrid.

They’ll be joined by two recurring cast members—Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch. HBO is yet to announce the casting of the main trio—Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger – but it’s previously been reported that over 30,000 kids auditioned for the lead roles.

According to HBO’s official logline, this “faithful adaptation” will explore every corner of the Wizarding World, while each season will bring Harry Potter and its incredible adventures to new and existing audiences.

HBO’s Harry Potter series hails from writer and showrunner Francesca Gardiner, who’s also executive producing it alongside J.K. Rowling, Mark Mylod, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman.

The blockbuster Harry Potter series and the It prequel Welcome to Derry are three of the shows currently involved in this decision, along with the Green Lantern adaptation Lanterns. It’s too late to go down the same road with some other Warner Bros. tentpole series, including The Penguin and Dune: Prophecy because they’ve already been sold as Max originals overseas.

HBO and Max content CEO Casey Bloys said they decided to make a shift because they approached these projects with the same methods and kind of thinking as other HBO shows.

“What we ended up with is shows at this scope and scale that look great, and great narratives and talent we’ve worked with… For a show that feels big and cinematic, they already are going to make the assumption that it feels like an HBO show. This is just leaning into that,” Bloys told Variety.

All shows involved in Warner Bros. Discovery’s new release strategy will still be streaming on Max following their linear release on HBO.

We have now gotten to know a different side to the Hogwarts headmaster as Jude Law portrays a younger version in the Fantastic Beasts series which also stars the evil object of his affection, Gellert Grindelwald.

In a featurette for the Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald DVD, J.K. Rowling shared her take on the relationship between the two characters she created.

“Their relationship was incredibly intense. It was passionate, and it was a love relationship,” she said. “But as happens in any relationship, gay or straight or whatever label we want to put on it, one never knows, really, what the other person is feeling. You can’t know, you can believe you know. So I’m less interested in the sexual side — though I believe there is a sexual dimension to this relationship — than I am in the sense of the emotions they felt for each other, which ultimately is the most fascinating thing about all human relationships.”

Amongst those wielding wands were 2 faces who have actually been to the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

The stars of Fantastic Beasts, Eddie Redmayne and Jude Law, surprised fans at King’s Cross Station ahead of the 11 AM countdown.

The magical duo will next be seen in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald which hits screens on the 16th of November.

J.K. Rowling is working on the script – she confirmed this during a Q&A session on her website saying: “I’ve just finished the fourth Galbraith novel, Lethal White, and I’m now writing the screenplay for Fantastic Beasts 3.”

The second installment of the Fantastic Beasts series is about to premiere in November this year, while the third one is scheduled for 2020. There will also be parts four and five, at least that’s what we know for now.
