Its star-studded cast is getting bigger by the day, and Damon was closely followed by Tom Holland (Spider-Man), plus Zendaya (Euphoria) and Anne Hathaway (Les Misérables), who joined the cast just last week.

Lupita Nyong’o is the latest A-list star to board this project, and she’s best known as Nakia from Black Panther and Patsey from 12 Years a Slave, for which she won an Academy Award for best supporting actress. She’s fresh off starring in A Quiet Place: Day One and voicing the animated film The Wild Robot.

Lupita Nyong’o and Danai Gurira are set to be involved in the adaptation of the award-winning novel Americanah that came out in 2013.

New streaming service, HBO Max, has decided to order 10 episodes straight to series based on the story of Ifemelu, a young Nigerian woman who is forced to come to terms with the color of her skin when moving to the United States for college.

“Americanah has been a passion project for me since I read Chimamanda’s beautiful novel in 2013,” Nyong’o said. “It’s a tale that is simultaneously timely and timeless. HBO Max is the perfect partner to bring this profound and celebrated story to life, and I’m thrilled that Danai will bring to the project her intelligence, wit, and understanding of the stories and the worlds of Americanah.”

Nyong’o will star in the lead role of Ifemelu, with Gurira taking on showrunning duties. Both Black Panther stars will also executive produce.

The Black Panther actress is starring in a film called Little Monsters, which has been screening at the Sundance Film Festival.

The zombie comedy — in which Lupita plays a teacher — features the famous Swift song “Shake It Off.”

The track first came out in 2014 and was nominated for both Record of the Year and Song of the Year at the 2015 Grammys.

Lupita has a personal connection with the song, as she explained: “I was going through a hard time professionally, and I was just in a funk. I was working abroad, and my best friend came to cheer me up. He played ‘Shake It Off’ on his phone, and we just had a dance party in my bedroom.”

In the film, the Oscar winner’s character plays the tune on the ukulele, but when she found out that the production was having difficulty securing the rights, she decided to take matters into her own hands.

“I wrote Taylor Swift myself and asked her, and told her that story. And she said yes!”
