]]>Barry Jenkins, the Oscar-winning director of Moonlight who recently worked on a critically acclaimed mini-series The Underground Railroad, is coming on board as executive producer. Issa López (Tigers Are Not Afraid, Secondary Effects) is writing the pilot and she’ll be in charge of directing it if HBO decided to move forward with the project.
Nic Pizzolatto, who created the series and served as the writer of most episodes, won’t be involved with the fourth season. He considered working on it after the third season wrapped up in 2019, but decided to focus on other projects, leaving it up to HBO to continue the series with a new creative team.
True Detective premiered on HBO in 2014, and returned for a total of three seasons, following a different group of detectives trying to solve mysterious crimes. The anthology series was met with critical acclaim, winning one Emmy and receiving four Golden Globe nominations.

]]>HBO has announced that the new year is set to open with the third awaited season of True Detective.
The first season of the series came out in 2014 and starred Woody Harrelson of Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, and The Dallas Buyers’ Club actor Matthew McConaughey as the pair of detectives solving a cultish murder.
The show’s second season saw Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them star Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn from Dragged Across Concrete fill the lead roles.
Moonlight star Mahershala Ali will play the lead in the third part of the anthology, which will also feature Carmen Ejogo, Stephen Dorff, Ray Fisher, Michael Greyeyes, Jon Tenney, Deborah Ayorinde, Rhys Wakefield, Sarah Gadon, Emily Nelson, Brandon Flynn, Michael Graziadei, Josh Hopkins, Jodi Balfour, and Mamie Gummer.
Season 3 of True Detective will premiere on the 13th of January.
