After a lot of anticipation, the first trailer for Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City is finally here – and it was worth waiting for. This sci-fi comedy is taking us to a space cadet convention during the 50s and its cast is as star-studded as it gets.

Anderson’s films always feature an ensemble of A-list stars, and he outdid himself this time around. Asteroid City stars the likes of Jason Schwartzman, Jeffrey Wright, Bryan Cranston, Adrien Brody, Liev Schreiber, Hope Davis, Stephen Park, Rupert Friend, Maya Hawke, Steve Carell, Matt Dillon, Hong Chau, Willem Dafoe, Margot Robbie, Tony Revolori, Jake Ryan, and Jeff Goldblum.

As for the plot, Asteroid City will center on a group of students and parents from across the country, who gathered in in a fictional American desert town around 1955 to attend a Junior Stargazer convention, which is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events.

Like Anderson’s last film, The French Dispatch, Asteroid City will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. After hitting the festival circuit in May, it will get a limited theatrical release on June 16, before expanding wide a week later.

Asteroid City isn’t the only film Anderson is planning to release this year. The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar starring Benedict Cumberbatch is also eying a 2023 release date on Netflix.

It’s been a few months since Netflix acquired Roald Dahl’s story catalog, and their first project is already on its way. Wes Anderson is set to adapt the writer’s The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, with Benedict Cumberbatch eyed to play the lead role.

The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar was included in Dahl’s series of seven short stories and chronicled the adventures of a modern-day Robin Hood who brings joy to the hearts of orphans—and fear to the souls of casino owners around the world.

Deadline reported that the project is expected to consist of three mini-films, similar to the Coen brothers’ The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. It’s unclear which stories will be included, but two of them will be autobiographical in nature and explore Dahl’s journey to becoming a writer and his experiences as a fighter pilot in World War II.

Deadline also reports that Benedict Cumberbatch will play Henry Sugar, while the rest of the cast includes Ralph Fiennes, Dev Patel, and Ben Kingsley. Production is expected to kick off next week in London, with the rest of the cast yet to be announced.

This won’t be Anderson’s first foray into the magical world of Dahl’s novels—he also directed Fantastic Mr. Fox in 2009.

Wes Anderson enjoys working with a select group of actors on many of his films, and that familiarity extends to studios.

The Isle of Dogs filmmaker has re-teamed with Fox Searchlight for The French Dispatch which is scheduled to be released next year.

“We are excited to dive back into the unmistakable and entirely original world of Wes Anderson,” said Steve Gilula and Nancy Utley who are the chairmen of Fox Searchlight Pictures. “Our collaborations with Wes in the past have been exceptional, and we’re thrilled to be back working with him and the Indian Paintbrush team on The French Dispatch.

The feature, which is Anderson’s 10th, has been described as a love letter to journalists set in an outpost of an American newspaper in a fictional 20th-century French city that brings to life a collection of stories published in The French Dispatch magazine.

The film will also reunite Anderson with Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, Owen Wilson, Bill Murray, Benicio del Toro, Jeffrey Wright, Adrien Brody, Timothée Chalamet, Léa Seydoux, Mathieu Amalric, Lyna Khoudri, and Stephen Park.

The French Dispatch is expected sometime in 2020.
