The Luther star has been cast in the sequel to 2016’s Suicide Squad as Deadshot — the role previously portrayed by Will Smith.

Variety reported that the Aladdin actor would not be able to reprise his role as the assassin in the DC flick due to scheduling conflicts.

With Deadshot playing such a key role in the story, Warner Bros. was determined to find a suitable replacement and have now earmarked Elba.

The Brit has three productions lined up this year — The Fast and the Furious spin-off Hobbs & Shaw, the big screen adaptation of Cats, and the Netflix series Turn Up Charlie — but should be available by the time filming for The Suicide Squad begins filming in September.

The James Gunn film currently has a release date of August 6th, 2021.

Will Smith has confirmed that he and Martin Lawrence are heading back to the Miami Police Department for Bad Boys III.

Bad Boys and Bad Boys II came out in 1995 and 2003, respectively, and have so far earned a combined $414 million.

The Suicide Squad actor broke the news in a video posted on Instagram from Santa Monica beach in California.

“It’s official, baby. It’s official. Bad Boys 3 is happening!” Will exclaims while standing alongside his co-star Martin.

Belgian directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah at the helm of the project, which will be based on a script from Chris Bremmer and see Will and Martin reprising their roles of Detectives Mike Lowery and Marcus Burnett.

Production on Bad Boys For Life is scheduled to begin in January 2019, ahead of its release on January 17th, 2020.
