Madea has had her last hurrah.
The kooky — and often uncouth — alter-ego of actor Tyler Perry was introduced to audiences in 2005’s Diary of a Mad Black Woman, and has since gone on to star in several of her own films such as Madea’s Big Happy Family, Madea Goes To Jail, and Madea’s Family Reunion.
With Tyler Perry’s a Madea Family Funeral set to debut next year, the filmmaker has said it is time to retire the character.
“This is it,” Tyler told SiriusXM radio host Bevy Smith. “It’s time for me to kill that old bitch. I’m tired! We’re gonna say goodbye in ’19. I just don’t want to be her age playing her.”
But don’t worry, Madea will be able to get to say her goodbyes as the 49 year old intends to take the character on a “farewell” stage tour.
Tyler Perry’s a Madea Family Funeral opens on the 1st of March 2019.
