The post Paddy Considine Cast as Lead in “Game of Thrones” Prequel Series “House of the Dragon” appeared first on thestarsworldwide.com.
]]>Considine will star in the series as King Viserys I, who was chosen by the lords of Westeros to succeed the Old King, Jaehaerys Targaryen, at the Great Council at Harrenhal. Described as a warm and kind man, Viserys wishes to carry on his grandfather’s legacy.
Fans of Game of Thrones may recall that Viserys I ruled over Westeros around 100 years after Aegon’s Conquest and that his children, Rhaenyra and Aegon II, fought a civil war over his throne that became known as the Dance of Dragons.
House of the Dragon was co-created by George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal and it’s based on Martin’s Fire & Blood. The 10-episode series is set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones and it tells the story of House Targaryen.
Considine is known for his HBO roles in The Outsider and he’s currently starring in The Third Day. His other TV roles include Peaky Blinders, Informer, and The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher. His film roles include Hot Fuzz, The Death of Stalin, Cinderella Man, and The Bourne Ultimatum.
House of the Dragon is expected to air sometime in 2022.

]]>The first attempt to bring George R.R. Martin’s bestselling novels to the screen looked very different than the Game of Thrones we fell in love with.
Entertainment Weekly published an excerpt from Fire Cannot Kill a Dragon: Game of Thrones and the Official Untold Story of the Epic Series, a book written by EW editor at large James Hibberd, which is set for an October 6 release and includes interviews from the show’s cast and crew.
The excerpt tells how actors, hairstyles, and major scenes were reconsidered after the pilot failed to land with HBO executives in the early stages of the show’s development. Among the changes were Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and Khal Drogo’s (Jason Momoa) wedding scene with Tamzin Merchant originally playing the role of Daenerys. In the original scene, Daenerys jumped a fire on a horse and the couple consummated the marriage by a brook.
Another huge change was that Rickon Stark was almost written out of the show, “The biggest thing was Dan and David called me up and had the idea of eliminating Rickon, the youngest of the Stark children because he didn’t do much in the first book,” George R.R. Martin said. “I said I had important plans for him, so they kept him.”
Thankfully, the series finally got the green light from HBO, but the pilot had to be shot again.

]]>HBO may have decided to cancel its initial spin-off from Kingsman writer, Jane Goldman, which planned to star Naomi Watts, but it has also chosen to give a series order to House of the Dragon.
The series from George R.R. Martin and co-creator of Colony, Ryan Condal, will be set in the early days of Westeros (300 years before the events we were witness to) and focus on House Targaryen which became involved in a civil war.
An alumnus from the original series is also onboard as Miguel Sapochnik, who directed episodes such as The Long Night, Battle of the Bastards, and Hardhome, will serve as co-showrunner alongside Condal.
“The Game of Thrones universe is so rich with stories,” said HBO programming president, Casey Bloys. “We look forward to exploring the origins of House Targaryen and the earlier days of Westeros along with Miguel, Ryan and George.”

]]>Confusing character arcs, a lack of deaths… the 6 episodes promoted thousands to sign a petition calling for HBO to redo season 8.
While months have passed —and most have gotten over the ending — a director from the series still feels as though the backlash was a bit much, even though he understood it.
“I don’t necessarily think the backlash was justified, but it was unavoidable,” said Neil Marshall. “You were never going to be able to please everybody, and when you’ve got fans as loyal as dedicated as those fans are, we’re talking millions of people with opinions globally. I think they did an amazing job and endings are always tricky? How do you end these stories. You’ve got to end them somewhere, but how do you do it?”
All said and done, the director of the episodes Blackwater and The Watchers on the Wall is satisfied with how the series concluded.
“My feeling is that everyone ended up exactly where they were supposed to end up. I think it’s a huge story, but it resolved itself in the way it was meant to.”

]]>The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences chose to honor the HBO series by showing footage from its final season before welcoming the cast on stage.
Well, at least some of it.
Standing before the audience to present the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series Or Movie were Alfie Allen, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, Lena Headey, Peter Dinklage, Kit Harington, Emilia Clarke, Gwendoline Christie, Nikolaj Coster-Waldeau, and Carice Van Houten.
Shortly before Allen began speaking, the camera panned to the audience where we saw four other Thrones actors — Isaac Hempstead-Wright, Liam Cunningham, John Bradley, and Conleth Hill.
Many have questioned why the quartet was not up there with their castmates.
While no official answer was given, it was assumed that those invited on stage were simply those who had been nominated for their roles in the various acting categories.
Either way, Game of Thrones was awarded Outstanding Drama Series, meaning the entire cast got to come up at the end after all!

]]>Marvel president Kevin Feige has confirmed that the dragon-riding actor will be joining the cast of Marvel’s The Eternals. He will be taking on the role of Dane Whitman, aka the Black Knight.
The Eternals is a comic book by Jack Kirby set millions of years ago. In the comics, a genius alien race experiment on humans to create a team of superheroes and supervillains (“the eternals” and “the deviants”).
Angelina Jolie has also been confirmed as a cast member, along with Salma Hayek and Richard Madden. The feature will be Harrington’s first appearance since he wrapped up filming for the final season of Game of Thrones. Jon Snow’s on-screen sister, played by Sophie Turner, recently starred as Jean Grey in DC’s Dark Phoenix. After appearing on a fantasy show with dragons and White Walkers, it seems like superhero movies are the way to go.
The Eternals is due for release on November 6, 2020.

]]>Starting in 2020, fans of the series and the books will have an opportunity to visit Winterfell and sit on the Iron Throne, courtesy of a new studio tour.
The Game of Thrones Studio Tour will be a 110,000-square-foot tourist attraction at Linen Mill Studios in Northern Ireland, and is the first in a series of legacy projects that HBO announced last year.
According to HBO, “the tour will bring visitors face-to-face with original set pieces, costumes, props, and weapons used to create the worlds of Westeros and Essos. Featuring a compelling mix of behind-the scenes insights, interactive elements, and expansive, fully dressed sets, visitors will wander in the very footsteps of Westeros’s most prominent residents, re-living key moments from the series and standing right where they took place.”
Fans will have to wait a while to visit the fantasy world as the tour will only open in Spring 2020, but at least we know that winter is coming.

]]>Arya Stark has undergone massive character development — starting off as Ned and Catelyn’s youngest daughter and growing into an assassin with many faces.
Now the 21-year-old is going back to her roots on season one. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Maisie said, “After reading the scripts I went back and watched Season 1 again because so much of it refers back to that season. There are so many scenes that will look similar.”
So what’s ahead for little Miss Stark?
“Basically this year it’s like she has a dual personality — there are so many emotions and memories that come flooding back when you’re with your family and the things that you fight for become very different, yet she’s also remaining on this path to try and kill Cersei and remembering her list and getting closer to that. So there’s this split with Arya between trying to be who she wants to be — getting back to the naïveté and innocence with her family — and unfinished business.”
Arya will attempt to finish business when season 8 of Game of Thrones starts on 14 April.

]]>We already know that most of the series’ 6 episodes will run more of a film-length at around 90 minutes.
Now, it seems that David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are trying to outdo one of film’s most epic battles — that of Helm’s Deep in Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.
The battle between the forces of Saruman and the Rohirim lasted 40 minutes on screen, with the anticipated Battle of Winterfell set to succeed that.
“This final face-off between the Army of the Dead and the army of the living is completely unprecedented and relentless and a mixture of genres even within the battle,” says co-executive producer Bryan Cogman. “There are sequences built within sequences built within sequences. David and Dan [wrote] an amazing puzzle and [director] Miguel [Sapochnik] came in and took it apart and put it together again. It’s been exhausting but I think it will blow everybody away.”
