]]>Joker: Folie à Deux will reunite us with Arthur Fleck aka Joker, who found himself stuck at Arkham Asylum at the end of the last movie – but he’s no longer all alone. His life takes an even wilder turn when he meets a fellow asylum inmate Harley Quinn, who turns out to be a perfect partner in crime.
Joker: Folie à Deux has been billed as a musical, and the first trailer gives us a glimpse of several dance numbers we’ll get to see in the film. One of them sees Joker and Harley Quinn dancing to “What the World Needs Now (Is Love Sweet Love)” under the moonlight sky, while wearing elegant outfits featured in the film’s poster.
Joker: Folie à Deux will also star Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, Steve Coogan, Ken Leung, and Harry Lawtey, plus Zazie Beetz reprising her role from the first film. It will hit the theaters on October 4 via Warner Bros. Pictures.

]]>Kitbag was set to start production later this month before Comer announced she’s exiting the project due to COVID-related scheduling issues. Scott entered “advanced negotiations” to find an actress who would take her part, and eventually settled with Vanessa Kirby.
According to its official synopsis, Kitbag “explores Bonaparte’s origins and his swift, ruthless climb to emperor, through the lens of his addictive and often volatile relationship with the Empress.” David Scarpa, who previously collaborated with Scott on All the Money in the World, wrote the script.
Vanessa Kirby rose to prominence with the Emmy-nominated portrayal of Princess Margaret on the first two seasons of the royal drama The Crown. She reunited with Netflix on Pieces of a Woman in 2020 and scored her first Oscar nomination for the lead role in this film.
Kitbag is not the only high-profile project she’s currently attached to. She’s expected to return as White Widow in the next two Mission: Impossible movies, appear in dramas The Brutalist and The Son, and star opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in the survival thriller Suddenly.

]]>And yet, that was not the case.
“I mean honestly, it wasn’t an easy decision at first,” Phoenix said of taking the part while at the Toronto Film Festival. “I didn’t f**ing know. I didn’t. But then there was something that was drawing me toward it. It just evolved as we worked together. It started becoming something more than I anticipated. It was one of the greatest experiences of my career.”
Phoenix’s performance earned a 10-minute standing ovation from critics when the Todd Phillips film premiered at the Venice Film Festival and is likely to put him in line for Oscar attention.
As for the future of Phoenix’s Joker, Phillips says there is no plan to connect him to the upcoming Batman franchise starring Robert Pattinson.
“Oddly, in the states, comic books are our Shakespeare it seems, and you can do many many versions of Hamlet,” Phillips said. “There will be many more Jokers, I’m sure, in the future.”
Phoenix’s Joker can be seen in theatres on October 4th.

]]>While The Dark Knight and Suicide Squad depict the Joker as an eccentric mastermind villain, Joaquin Phoenix’s rendition of the Joker is far lonelier and more melancholy. We finally get to see the villain’s origin story, which is a story not of a freak factory accident – but one of the outcast.
The trailer suggests that in this version of the origin story, we will get to see the intricate details of Arthur Fleck’s character as he unravels. Joker thus seems to be a story less about superheroes and villains and more about mental instability and societal neglect.
It is also apparent from the trailer why Joker has been given an R rating. In one scene, we watch Phoenix stamp on a body in an alley away and the general tone of the trailer is dark and serious.
