Shōgun knocked it out of the park with its very first season, and its cast and crew are reaping the fruits of their labors. FX’s historical drama came into this year’s Emmy Awards with 25 nods and made history by collecting a record-breaking 18 trophies.

It was pretty clear that this Sunday was going to be an epic night for Shōgun even before the Primetime Emmy Awards rolled around. This series won 14 trophies at the Creative Arts Emmy Award and added four more to its collection at the main event, setting a new record for most wins in a single year with 18. It also became the first non-English series to be named the outstanding drama series.

The Bear made history in the comedy field with a total of 11 awards – the most for a comedy series in a single year. It collected four major awards on Sunday night, but it failed to win the coveted outstanding comedy series award, which went to Hacks this time around.

Netflix’s Baby Reindeer lived up to the hype after coming into the ceremony as one of the front-runners in the limited series field. It won the Emmy for outstanding limited or anthology series, while its stars Richard Gadd and Jessica Gunning were honored with acting awards.

The 2024 Primetime Emmy Awards were held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on September 15, with Eugene Levy and Dan Levy sharing the hosting duties.

Television’s biggest night is coming our way this September, and we finally know who’s competing for those shiny trophies. The list of Primetime Emmy Awards nominations is in, and The Bear, Shōgun, and True Detective emerged as the top contenders this time around.

Shōgun topped this year’s list of nominees with a whopping 25 nods, making history as only the second non-English language series to score a nomination for the outstanding drama series. The Crown, Fallout, The Gilded Age, The Morning Show, Mr & Mrs Smith, Slow Horses, and 3 Body Problem are also in the running for this award.

The Bear is leading the way in the comedy field with 23 nods, the most ever received by a comedy series in a single year. It will have to beat Abbott Elementary, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Hacks, Only Murders in the Building, Palm Royale, Reservation Dogs, and What We Do in Shadows to win the outstanding comedy series for the second year in a row.

True Detective: Night Country is close behind with 19 nods, leading the way in the limited/anthology series categories. The list of major contenders in this field also includes Baby Reindeer, Lessons in Chemistry, Ripley, and Fargo.

The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards will air live on ABC from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California on September 15.
