]]>The Oscar-winning writer of Jojo Rabbit is no stranger to directing a major blockbuster. He previously joined forces with Disney for Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok and went on to direct its Thor: Love and Thunder. He also voiced and motion-captured the character Korg, so he definitely has the habit of casting himself in his own movies.
Waititi’s involvement is quite exciting, but it comes amid a major Lucasfilm shakedown that left several other projects on the back burner. Most notably, Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron and the Kevin Feige project that has Michael Waldron attached as a writer are no longer in active development.
Lucasfilm hasn’t released a new Star Wars film since The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, but the studio kept fans pretty happy through their acclaimed Disney + shows, including The Mandalorian, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Andor. ]]>Guns N’ Roses’ smash-hit “Sweet Child o’ Mine” serves as a perfect soundtrack for this epic trailer, that invites us back into Thor’s world. The God of Thunder is convinced that his “superheroing days are over”, but that’s not what the universe has in store.
Thor (Chris Hemsworth) wants to use his hands as “humble tools for peace”, but that’s impossible since the sinister villain the God Butcher (Christian Bale) stands in his way. He must stop him from eliminating all gods with the help of Jane Foster/The Mighty Thor (Natalie Portman) and Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson).
The first trailer also reunites Thor with the Guardians of the Galaxy, played by Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, and Karen Gillan, among others. Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster, Jaimie Alexander as Sif, and Taika Waititi as Korg are also set to reprise their roles from the previous Thor movies.
Waititi was also in charge of directing Thor: Love and Thunder, which is scheduled to be released on July 8, as part of Marvel’s Phase Four.
