]]>Goddard is an Oscar-nominated screenwriter, whose filmography includes The Martian and The Cabin in the Woods, and he’s looking forward to putting a spin on one of his favorite franchises.
“It is not hyperbole to say The Matrix films changed both cinema and my life. Lana and Lilly’s exquisite artistry inspires me on a daily basis, and I am beyond grateful for the chance to tell stories in their world,” said Goddard in a statement.
Not much is known about the plot at this point in time, but it will most likely put a new twist on the franchise without straying too far from its roots. According to Jesse Ehrman, Warner Bros Motion Pictures’ president of production, Goddard’s new take will “continue the Matrix world, by both honoring what Lana and Lilly began over 25 years ago and offering a unique perspective based on his own love of the series and characters.”
Lana Wachowski will return as the executive producer of The Matrix 5, which will make the first film in the franchise she won’t direct. It’s unclear if the original cast members Keanu Reeves, Carrie Anne-Moss, and Laurence Fishburne will be back as Neo, Trinity, and Morpheus.

]]>Reeves revealed this while discussing the future of the franchise during his appearance on the Empire podcast.
“If I had to cast a ballot – no, not a ballot, a vote – I would say that Lana [Wachowski] would not do another Matrix,” Reeves said when asked about a possible sequel to Resurrections.
This is in line with what the movie’s producer James McTeigue recently said in his interview with Collider.
“We’ve got no prequel in mind. We’ve got no sequel in mind. We’ve got no further trilogy,” McTeigue explained.
Still, this might not be enough to squash fans’ hopes for another The Matrix movie since Resurrections itself came unexpectedly. It was previously believed that the story of The Matrix franchise was done with the third movie, The Matrix: Revolutions and that the creators of the franchise, Lana and Lilly Wachowski, rejected the idea of continuing it for years before the fourth movie was announced.
The Matrix: Resurrections came out on December 22, 2021 and was released simultaneously in cinemas and on the HBO Max streaming service. The movie has grossed $68 million at the box office so far while receiving mixed reviews from the audience and the critics.

]]>Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss will be reprising their respective roles as Neo and Trinity in the fourth film in the science-fiction franchise that was confirmed in August.
But they won’t be doing it alone.
It has now been announced that Neil Patrick Harris has decided to choose the red pill.
The How I Met Your Mother actor is the latest addition to the ensemble cast, though his role has not yet been revealed.
Also joining The Matrix 4 is Aquaman star, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who is rumored to be playing a younger version of Laurence Fishburne’s character, Morpheus.
One half of the Wachowskis — Lana — will be back at the helm, as well as producing and writing the screenplay alongside Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell.
The film is expected to begin production at the beginning of 2020.

]]>After a very long hiatus, the sci-fi franchise is set to return with a fourth installment.
The untitled feature will star original leads Keanu Reeves as Neo and Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity. In addition to directing Wachowski, will also pen and produce the film.
“We could not be more excited to be re-entering The Matrix with Lana,” said Toby Emmerich, chairman of Warner Bros Pictures Group. “Lana is a true visionary — a singular and original creative filmmaker — and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in The Matrix universe.”
“Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now,” added Wachowski. “I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends.”
The Matrix trilogy launched in 1999 and wrapped in 2005. The three films have earned more than $1.6 billion at the global box office.

Li was offered to join the cast in the Wachowskis’ latter two films as the Oracle’s bodyguard Seraph (which ultimately went to Collin Chou), but declined.
Now, before you bend into a back-flip, slow down.
The 55 year old reveals that he was concerned that his intellectual property would be misused as a result of technology (no, the irony is not lost).
“I realized the Americans wanted me to film for three months but be with the crew for nine. And for six months, they wanted to record and copy all my moves into a digital library,” the Chinese star told Abacus News. “By the end of the recording, the right to these moves would go to them. I was thinking: I’ve been training my entire life. And we martial artists could only grow older. Yet they could own [my moves] as an intellectual property forever. So I said I couldn’t do that.”
Sounds like he chose the right pill…
