]]>It’s been less than a week since Netflix announced that Knives Out 3 is officially happening with a cryptic teaser trailer. Rian Johnson is coming back as the writer, director, and producer of this highly-anticipated sequel, which will be released in 2025 under the title Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.
Knives Out films are as good as their cast, and the third installment will truly be an embarrassment of riches. Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla) and Josh O’Connor (Challengers) were the first actors to join the cast before Andrew Scott (All of Us Strangers) hopped on board earlier this week.
Wake Up Dead Man ensemble is getting larger by the day, and it will also include the Scandal star Kerry Washington and the Hollywood veteran Glenn Close. Washington currently stars in Hulu’s comedy UnPrisoned, and will next appear in Tyler Perry’s Six Triple Eight, while the eight-time Oscar nominee Close is fresh off starring in The New Look, and will next be seen in action comedies Brothers and Back in Action.

]]>There’s an air of mystery surrounding this project, and its writer/director Rian Johnson shared nothing but its title with the world. We know that Daniel Craig will be back as Benoit Blanc, and it’s safe to expect he’ll solve another whodunit murder mystery involving a group of quirky characters since the previous two films in this franchise followed the same premise.
It’s unlikely that any of the previous characters would make an appearance, with the expectations of Blanc, since Johnson always saw Knives Out films as standout mysteries.
“Part of the fun of these things is the idea that they’re not sequels, they’re completely new books and they’re completely new stories… It’s not about trying to top the previous one, it’s about just trying to create something that surprises us and thus hopefully will surprise the audience,” he told Variety.
Knives Out kicked off this franchise in 2019, before Netflix acquired the rights for two sequels for $469 million, including Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, which premiered on this streaming service in 2022.
