The post 2024 BAFTA TV Awards: “The Crown” & “Black Mirror” Among Top Contenders appeared first on thestarsworldwide.com.
]]>The Crown didn’t make it to the best drama series field, losing the nomination to The Gold, Happy Valley, Slow Horses, and Top Boy, but that didn’t stop it from topping the list of nominees.
It scored four nods in the acting field, thanks to the amazing performances of its stars Dominic West, Elizabeth Debecki, Lesley Manville, and Salim Daw. It’s also one of the main contenders in the craft categories with four additional nods, such as best costume design, makeup and hair design, sound, and special effects.
As for Black Mirror, Netflix’s anthology series owes its seven nominations to the final Season 6 episode “Demon 79”. It’s one of the contenders for best limited drama, while its leading lady Anjana Vasan secured a nomination for the best leading actress.
The 2024 British Academy Television Awards winners will be announced from the Royal Festival Hall in London on May 12. BBC One will handle live broadcast and they’re yet to announce this year’s host.

]]>The post “The Crown” Season 6 Teaser Marks the Beginning of the End appeared first on thestarsworldwide.com.
]]>The new teaser captures Queen Elizabeth’s transformation over the years, while she delivers a powerful speech, reflecting on the responsibility she had to take on. She explains that “some portion of our natural selves is always lost” to the crown, adding it’s not a choice, but a duty to lead the monarchy.
Glimpses of Claire Foy and Olivia Colman can be seen throughout the trailer, but it’s Imelda Staunton’s turn to shine in the spotlight as Queen Elizabeth. She’ll be joined by Jonathan Pryce (Prince Philip), Lesley Manville (Princess Margaret), Elizabeth Debicki (Princess Diana), Dominic West (Prince Charles), Salim Daw (Mohamed Al Fayed), and Khalid Abdalla (Dodi Fayed).
Season 6 will also feature several newcomers, including Meg Bellamy as Kate Middleton, with Rufus Kampa and Fflyn Edwards, plus Ed McVey and Luther Ford playing younger and older versions of Prince William and Prince Harry.
Netflix split the show’s final season into two parts, set to premiere on this streaming service on November 16 and December 14.

]]>The Crown mostly owes its Emmy success to its talented cast, with Josh O’Connor, Olivia Colman, Tobias Menzies, and Gillian Anderson all picking up awards in their respective acting categories. The Netflix hit show also won the award for the outstanding drama series, in addition to picking up trophies for outstanding directing and writing for a drama series.
Ted Lasso won four awards, including the outstanding comedy series and acting awards for three of its stars—Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, and Brett Goldstein. HBO Max’s rookie comedy Hacks was a close second with three awards, and Jean Smart’s win for outstanding lead actress in a comedy series was one of the show’s best moments.
Mare of Easttown dominated the limited series field with three acting awards, won by its stars Kate Winslet, Evan Peters, and Julianne Nicholson. This HBO drama was also one of the favorites for the outstanding limited or anthology series, but The Queen’s Gambit eventually managed to come out victorious.
The 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards were hosted by Cedric the Entertainer on September 19th.

]]>The post Imelda Staunton is Ready to Step Into the Queen’s Shoes on “The Crown” appeared first on thestarsworldwide.com.
]]>An early glimpse of the new Queen sees Staunton pursing her lips with a reserved looking on her face while rocking the Queen’s signature hairstyle, a string of pearls, and a yellow blouse. She’s taking on the mantle from Claire Foy and Olivia Colman, and she’s admitted that it’s quite challenging to play a more current version of the British monarch.
“I’m now doing the Queen that we’re a little more familiar with. With Claire Foy, it was almost history and now I’m playing one that people could say ‘she doesn’t do that,’ ‘she’s not like that,’ and that’s my personal bête noire,” the Oscar-nominated actress told BBC.
Staunton will be in pretty good company when a new season of The Crown premieres on Netflix in 2022. The cast will also include Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret, Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip, Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana, and Dominic West as Prince Charles.

]]>Zhao made history as only the second female director to win the best director award at the Globes, in addition to picking up the best drama motion picture award for Nomadland. It was also a big night for Sacha Baron Cohen, whose recent project Borat Subsequent Moviefilm was awarded two trophies in the comedy field.
The acting categories were full of major upsets, but one win that everyone saw coming was Chadwick Boseman’s triumph with his final movie Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. The list of major surprises included Andra Day’s win for The United States vs. Billie Holiday, Daniel Kaluuya’s victory with Judas and the Black Messiah, and Jodie Foster’s upset with The Mauritanian.
The winners in the television categories were much easier to predict. The Crown led the way with four wins, as its stars Josh O’Connor, Emma Corrin, and Gillian Anderson picked up trophies in their respective categories. Schitt’s Creek and The Queen’s Gambit closely followed, with two awards each.
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were in charge of co-hosting this year’s Golden Globe Awards ceremony, which took place on February 28th.

]]>David Fincher’s highly-anticipated Citizen Kane-origin story is the main contender in the drama categories, with The Trial of the Chicago 7, The Father, Nomadland, and Promising Young Woman right behind. When it comes to the comedy field, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm was the only movie to receive three nods, and it’s the obvious favorite to score the win.
The television field is equally crowded with critically acclaimed projects, with The Crown coming on top. The latest season of this royal drama received a total of six nominations, mostly in the acting categories, but it’s also the main contender for best television series – drama. Schitt’s Creek pretty much mirrored its success in the comedy categories, with five nominations.
The winners of this year’s Golden Globes will be crowned on February 28th. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will tune in to host the ceremony from New York and Los Angeles, making this the first bi-coastal ceremony.

]]>The post Dominic West in Talks to Star in Seasons 5 and 6 of “The Crown” appeared first on thestarsworldwide.com.
]]>News of the casting comes just under a month before the series returns for season 4 on November 15.
The Crown was originally planned to run for five seasons but showrunner Peter Morgan confirmed that the drama will come back for a sixth and final season earlier this year.
“As we started to discuss the storylines for Series 5, it soon became clear that in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story we should go back to the original plan and do six seasons. To be clear, Series 6 will not bring us any closer to present-day — it will simply enable us to cover the same period in greater detail,” Morgan said.
Seasons 5 and 6 will also star Imelda Staunton as the new Queen Elizabeth II, with Leslie Manville set to play Princess Margaret and Jonathan Pryce portraying Prince Philip.

]]>“Here is the stuff of which fairy tales are made—a prince and princess on their wedding day. But fairy tales usually end at this point, with the simple phrase, ‘They lived happily ever after,’” the trailer’s narrator says. “As husband and wife live out their vows, loving and cherishing one another—sharing life’s splendors and miseries, achievements and setbacks — they will be transformed in the process. Our faith sees the wedding day not as the place of arrival, but the place where the adventure really begins.”
The new season premiers on November 15 and it will focus on how the Queen and her family are trying to find an “appropriate” bride for Prince Charles as well as the budding romance of Charles and Lady Diana Spencer. While the marriage is depicted as a fairytale to unite the British people, it’s far from that for Diana.
Coleman returns to play Queen Elizabeth as does Tobias Menzies who plays Prince Philip. Claire Foy will return to the role of Queen Elizabeth in a flashback scene and a toddler version of Prince William will appear with a pregnant Prince Diana with Prince Harry.
Netflix previosuly released first look photos of the season’s upcoming moments on Twitter.
