]]>The title of Sheeran’s new album draws inspiration from Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations, which he dedicated to his friends. Sheeran opted for this title because his inspiration from Autumn Variations comes from the same place, and he used it to pay homage to his closest buddies.
In an official statement announcing this album, Sheeran explained that it was inspired by the many life changes, both the high and the lows, that he and his friends went through last autumn.
“Writing songs helped me understand my feelings and come to terms with what was going on, and when I learned about my friend’s different situations, I wrote songs, some from their perspectives, some from mine, to capture how they and I viewed the world at that time,” he explained on Instagram.
Autumn Variations will be released by Gingerbread Man Records on September 29, and it will feature a total of 14 tracks, including “That’s on Me”, “Head > Heels”, “Magical”, and “American Town”.

]]>Sheeran described “Eyes Closed” as a song “about losing someone, feeling like every time you go out and you expect to just bump into them, and everything just reminds you of them and the things you did together.” Losing his friend and mentor Jamal Edwards, who suddenly passed away last year, served as the main inspiration for this track.
The visual for “Eyes Closed” was directed by Mia Barnes, and it features a big blue monster that follows Sheeran everywhere he goes. This character was inspired by the movie Harvey and a book that he read to his daughters, where sadness is encapsulated by an imaginary creature. It represents grief that follows us around, engulfing the rooms we’re in, even when no one else can see it.
“Eyes Closed” was released as the lead single from Sheeran’s upcoming album Subtract. It will be released through Asylum and Atlantic Records on May 5 and feature a total of 14 tracks.

]]>Sheeran teased his new album Subtract (styled as “-”) in the form of a diary entry on social media, accompanied by a photograph by Annie Liebowitz. He explained his new album was created against “a backdrop of grief and hope”, following his wife’s tumor diagnosis during her pregnancy, which could only be treated after she gave birth. During this time he also dealt with the sudden death of his best friend Jamal and a copyright lawsuit over “Shape of You”.
All these events changed Sheeran’s outlook on life, music, and art, and she wanted to put out a body of work that accurately represents where he is at this point in his life.
“This album is purely that. It’s opening the trapdoor into my soul. For the first time, I’m not trying to craft an album people will like, I’m merely putting something out that’s honest and true to where I am in my adult life,” explained Sheeran on social media.
Subtract will hit the shelves on May 5, and the standard edition of the album will feature a total of 14 tracks.

]]>Sheeran celebrated this historic milestone by posting a video on social media, where he shared a backstory behind its release history and revealed it was never meant to be a single in the first place.
“Ben Cook from my label, was basically saying ‘You have to put this on the album. it had to be a single.’ And I said to him, ‘I want ‘Castle on the Hill’ to be the first single… We agreed to disagree and put both songs out at once. And I have to say, Ben, I was wrong and you were very much right. And here we are!” said Sheeran in the video.
“Shape of You” was indeed released as one of the double lead singles from his 2017 album Divide, along with “Castle on the Hill”. It hit No. 1 in 34 countries and won numerous accolades, including the British single of the year at the Brit Awards and the best pop solo performance at the Grammy Awards.

]]>The video for Sheeran’s latest single sees him playing a glam vampire, rocking a pink suit and some dazzling eye makeup. The “Shape of You” singer said the video’s theme was inspired by Buffy the Vampire Slayer and it’s a metaphor for all the vices we invite into our life once the sun goes down.
“The song is called ‘Bad Habits’ and I feel like most bad habits come out when the sun goes down on a Friday night… So I thought for the music video I’d want to do something within the vein of bad habits. I feel when the sun goes down, vampires come out,” Sheeran told ETalk.
“Bad Habits” will be featured as the lead single on Sheeran’s fifth studio album, expected to come out later this year. It will serve as the follow-up to his collaborative LP No.6 Collaborations Project, which came out in 2019 and featured the likes of Justin Bieber, Camila Cabello, Travis Scott, Eminem, and Cardi B.

“The Divide era and tour changed my life in so many ways, but now it’s all over it’s time to go out and see more of the world,” he shared in Instagram post. “I promise to be back with some new music when the time is right, and I’ve lived a little more to actually have something to write about.”

]]>The Grammy award winner and his longtime manager, Stuart Camp, are reportedly opening a new establishment.
The pair purchased a Spanish diner called Galicia last year, and are planning to transform it into a restaurant/bar with live music.
Renovation of the £2 million place is currently underway, with the new owners thinking up a name. Locals in the West London neighborhood where it is situated still apparently refer to it as Galicia, but it is possible that its new title could come from Ed’s hit song, Castle on the Hill.
According to reports, it is hoped that the new haunt will open as soon as next month.
Let’s hope that Ed will be on the performance line-up. Or at least Taylor Swift.
