]]>HBO announced the show’s cancelation in the official statement, and said they’ve decided not to move forward with the second season “after much thought and consideration”.
“The Idol was one of HBO’s most provocative original programs, and we’re pleased by the strong audience response… We’re grateful to the creators, cast, and crew for their incredible work,” reads HBO’s statement.
The Idol centers on aspiring pop singer Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp), who’s trying to salvage what’s left of her career after a nervous breakdown that led to the cancelation of her last tour. Her fragile state is only made worse once the sinister nightclub owner (The Weeknd) walks into her life.
The star-studded supporting cast of The Idol includes Troye Sivan, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Dan Levy, Eli Roth, Hari Nef, Jane Adams, Jennie Ruby Jane, Mike Dean, Moses Sumney, Rachel Sennott, Suzanna Son, and Hank Azaria. The show had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival this spring before heading to HBO in June.

]]>The new trailer is set to the beat of Britney Spears’s “Gimme More”, which is an excellent choice given the show’s premise. The Idol centers on a rising star Jocelyn, who was forced to cancel her last tour in the face of a major nervous breakdown.
Her passion for music is reignited by Tedros, a nightclub impresario with a sordid past, but their connection leaves everyone wondering if he’ll take her to glorious new heights or the deepest and darkest depths of her soul.
The show’s supporting cast includes Suzanna Son, Troye Sivan, Moses Sumney, Jane Adams, Dan Levy, Jennie Kim, Eli Roth, Rachel Sennott, Hari Nef, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Mike Dean, and Hank Azaria.
Euphoria’s Sam Levinson co-created the series alongside Reza Fahim and The Weeknd and directed all episodes after Amy Seimetz dropped out due to creative differences. The Idol will feature a total of six episodes and it will premiere on HBO on June 4.

Gunna’s DS4Ever is the latest album to confirm the power that hip-hop has over the Billboard 200 chart. Its triumph was powered by several A-list collaborators, including Future, Young Thug, 21 Savage, and Drake, and it’s Gunna’s second consecutive album to hit no. 1.
As for Dawn FM, it’s The Weeknd’s first studio album since his debut Kiss Land in 2013 to miss out on the top spot. He previously hit no. 1 with Beauty Behind the Madness, Starboy, After Hours, and his 2018 EP My Dear Melancholy.
The Weeknd and Gunna were joined by former chart-toppers—Encanto soundtrack, Adele’s 30, and Morgan Wallen’s Dangerous: The Double Album—in the top five.

]]>The Weeknd has been teasing a new project with a working title The Dawn for quite some time, and he kicked 2022 off by officially announcing it. The first hint came in the form of a text message that he shared with his creative director La Mar Taylor, where he wrote, “Let’s just drop the whole thing and enjoy it with the people.”
Just a day later, The Weeknd announced that Dawn FM will hit the shelves on January 7. In addition to the lead single “Take My Breath”, it’s expected to feature contributions from Tyler, the Creator, Lil Wayne, Quincy Jones, Oneohtrix Point Never, and Jim Carrey.
Dawn FM serves as the follow-up to The Weeknd’s seminal album After Hours, which came out in 2020 and produced the No. 1 hits “Heartless”, “Blinding Lights”, and “Save Your Tears”. He’s expected to promote both albums with After Hours til Dawn world tour later this year, after delaying it several times in the face of the global pandemic.

“Take My Breath” is expected to be featured on The Weeknd’s upcoming fifth studio album, being developed under the working title The Dawn. Not much is known about it right now, apart from the fact that he started plotting it while in quarantine.
After Hours notably didn’t feature any collaborations, apart from several remixes that followed its release, but things could be different the next time around. In a recent interview with GQ, The Weeknd expressed interest in collaborating with Kanye West, Tyler, the Creator, and Arca in a nearby feature.

]]>The Weeknd was nominated in 16 categories and eventually came out victorious in 10—Top Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Male Artist, Top Radio Songs Artist, Top R&B Artist, Top R&B Male Artist, Top R&B Album, Top Hot 100 Song, Top Radio Song, and Top R&B Song for “Blinding Lights”.
He was followed by the late rapper Pop Smoke, who walked away with a total of five awards. Pop Smoke pulled one of the biggest upsets of the entire ceremony and managed to beat The Weeknd and Taylor Swift in the Top Billboard 200 Album category with his debut album Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon.
BTS and Bad Bunny were also among the major winners with four awards, while Gabby Barrett celebrated a total of three wins. Pink was honored with Icon Award, while Drake picked up the Artist of the Decade Award.
The 2021 Billboard Music Awards were hosted by Nick Jonas on May 23rd at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

]]>“Blinding Lights” set this record after 28 weeks in the top five, breaking the record previously held by Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You” and “Closer” by The Chainsmokers and Halsey. Both of these songs spent 27 weeks in the top five back in 2016 and 2017.
“Blinding Lights” found huge success on the charts long before becoming the longest-running top five hit. It already spent four weeks at no. 1 in the U.S. and topped the charts in over 30 countries around the world since its release in November last year.
“Blinding Lights” isn’t the only no. 1 hit from The Weeknd’s latest album After Hours. “Heartless” was released as the album’s lead single, and it topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart before “Blinding Lights” managed to accomplish the same feat.
