The post Lucasfilm is Developing Three More “Star Wars” Films Starring Daisy Ridley appeared first on thestarsworldwide.com.
]]>Ridley led the sequel trilogy, which included films The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker, but she didn’t return to the franchise ever since. That’s about to change pretty soon, and she’s gearing up to head to the galaxy far, far away in a new Star Wars movie directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
Ridley announced her comeback during a surprise appearance at the Star Wars Celebration in London, and it turns out she won’t be back for a single film. Two more sequels are in the early stages of development, with Dave Filoni and James Mangold at the helm.
Ridley got her big break thanks to the role of Rey in the Star Wars franchise, but she’s mostly been focusing on indie projects following The Rise of Skywalker. She has several movies on the way this year, including Sundance hit Sometimes I Think About Dying, animated movie The Inventor, psychological thriller The Marsh King’s Daughter, and sports biopic Young Woman and the Sea.

]]>The Oscar-winning writer of Jojo Rabbit is no stranger to directing a major blockbuster. He previously joined forces with Disney for Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok and went on to direct its Thor: Love and Thunder. He also voiced and motion-captured the character Korg, so he definitely has the habit of casting himself in his own movies.
Waititi’s involvement is quite exciting, but it comes amid a major Lucasfilm shakedown that left several other projects on the back burner. Most notably, Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron and the Kevin Feige project that has Michael Waldron attached as a writer are no longer in active development.
Lucasfilm hasn’t released a new Star Wars film since The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, but the studio kept fans pretty happy through their acclaimed Disney + shows, including The Mandalorian, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Andor. Several more series are in development, including The Mandalorian spinoff Ahsoka and Leslye Headland’s The Acolyte.

]]>What has been rumored since the beginning of the year is now official — Taika Waititi will helm and co-write the as-yet-untitled Star Wars film. His co-writer is 1917’s co-scribeKrysty Wilson-Cairns.
The news was announced by Disney and Lucasfilm announced on Monday.
It’s now safe to say that Waititi had a big change of heart because back in February, he thought that boarding a Star Wars project would end his career.
“I think people see me hanging out with people, especially with Star Wars, and think I’m having some big discussions about it,” he said. “I would f—ing love to.…If it was right. I would want to do any kind of movie if it made sense, and if it felt not like career suicide.”
Waititi also helmed the season finale of the hit Disney+ Star Wars series The Mandalorian.

The series will focus on Luna’s Cassian Andor during the early days of the Rebellion’s battle with the Empire and Alan Tudyk will reprise his role as deadpan droid K-2SO.
Disney+ announced the series last year calling it a “spy thriller” and the show is set to debut in 2021, but it’s unknown if this will happen as the coronavirus has slowed down production.
The Star Wars series have been very popular on the streaming service and The Mandalorian is set for a second season and there will be another series that focuses on a young Obi Wan-Kenobi with Ewan McGregor reprising his role.

]]>That’s because writers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have pulled out.
The Game of Thrones creators were hired in February 2018 to pen the story for the three films which will first debut in 2022.
The pair has, however, now announced that they will no longer be part of the Star Wars universe, citing their busy schedules which includes their new overall deal at Netflix that will enable them to make both movies and series.
“We love Star Wars. When George Lucas built it, he built us too. Getting to talk about Star Wars with him and the current Star Wars team was the thrill of a lifetime, and we will always be indebted to the saga that changed everything,” the duo said in a statement. “There are only so many hours in the day, and we felt we could not do justice to both Star Wars and our Netflix projects. So we are regretfully stepping away.”
LucasFilm will now be searching for a D&D’s replacement while hoping the news does not overshadow The Rise of Skywalker which opens on December 20th.

]]>With production well underway on Star Wars: Episode IX, director J.J. Abrams seems to be adding even more and more stars with whom he has previously worked.
It was announced last month that Dominic Monaghan, who had partnered with the filmmaker on Lost, would be heading to a galaxy far, far away; as well as Felicity star, Keri Russell; and it looks as though they will now be joined by J.J.’s regular collaborator, Greg Grunberg.
In addition to having a blink-and-you’d-miss-it role on Lost as the pilot, J.J. and Greg have also worked together in the past on Felicity, Alias, and Mission: Impossible III.
Greg’s role in the final part of the Star Wars trilogy is remaining under wraps, but let’s hope that this time he plays a character that survives!

“Bittersweet starting this next chapter without Carrie,” Abrams wrote. “But thanks to an extraordinary cast and crew, we are ready to go. Grateful for @rianjohnson and special thanks to George Lucas for creating this incredible world and beginning a story of which we are lucky to be a part.”
This will be the first Star Wars film without its stalwart, Carrie Fisher, who passed away in December 2016 as a result of cardiac arrest.
Abrams announced last week, however, that the late actress would still appear in Episode IX by using previously unused footage from Episode XIII.
At the time of writing, the director has over 39,800 followers to his name!

]]>Just before Star Wars: The Last Jedi was released, Lucasfilm announced Johnson, the film’s director, would write and direct the next trilogy, taking place beyond Episode IX and introducing brand new characters and stories into the franchise. As Johnson told IGN, “part of the excitement of it is really trying to hone in on ‘what is Star Wars?’ What was Star Wars for me the very first time I saw it when I was a little kid?”
What will set these new films apart is that Johnson will try to recreate the formula for a successful Star Wars franchise, but without including anyone of Skywalker lineage or other notable characters from the saga. As Johnson put it, “once you get past the things that are the iconography of Star Wars – once you say, okay, if it doesn’t have the Falcon; if it doesn’t have someone with Skywalker as their last name; if we don’t go to Tatooine, what is it?”
